Sylvester Stallone has opened up about playing football in high school. He said that he was "terrible" at it and claimed that they didn't win a single game.

The Rocky actor is known for his athletic and sporty roles in various iconic movies. However, he struggled during his time on his high school football team. The superstar actor said that he even got the nickname "Wood Hands" because of his playing style.

On Sunday, September 27, Sylvester Stallone appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The host, Jimmy Fallon, brought out a picture of the actor in his football gear from high school. Stallone then said:

"I was terrible. They used to call me Wood Hands. 'Cause I never played sports as a young guy, and I'd go to school and want to play football like this."

He added:

"So, the entire, after the season was over, and the entire summer, I literally walked around with a football, slept with a football, ate with a football, 'How you doing, football? How you doing?' You know, I was like, conversed with it until finally, the next year, I was ready to play. And I'd like to say that we didn't win one game. Zero. That's almost impossible. It was a nice picture, though."

Fallon then shared another picture of Sylvester Stallone in action during a game, to which the actor replied:

"All right, this was right before my concussion. Thank you for showing that."

Notably, Sylvester Stallone played football at Lincoln High School, and according to History in Philadelphia, he even captained the team in 1963.

The iconic actor is best known for his roles as a boxer in Rocky and as an action star in various other movies. Many people have hailed his physique as an inspiration over the years.

However, in an interview with The New York Times last week, he revealed that he initially built it using steroids. He said that he wanted to build an athletic body instead of just being big and added:

"So I started to think: Design your body like a jaguar, a cat. Not big like Arnold, but more feral and aggressive and very limber and athletic. Then it became an obsession. Really bad. It got to the point where I became bulimic. You heard it here first. I got down to 2.6 percent body fat when I was doing “Rocky III,” and I couldn’t hold anything down."

Sylvester Stallone further revealed that he became "obsessed" with fitness at the time. He added:

"I’ve abused my body. I’ve had nine back operations, two shoulder operations, three neck fusions. Everything is held together with baling wire, but I still want to stay in good shape."

The superstar further revealed that he is "sort of fit" at 80 years old, but needs a "lot of pills" to keep going. He added that if he could do things all over again, he would perhaps not do his own stunts and not hurt his body all the time.
