Matt Walsh has opened up about Donald Trump's attempts to officially ban the term "Artificial Intelligence". He wants to replace it with the term "Super Intelligence" or SI.

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, has been one of the most prominent terms in recent years with the rise of the technology worldwide. In September this year, Trump met with the tech leaders of numerous companies to discuss potential regulations on AI use in the US. He also said that AI should be replaced with the term SI back then.

On Tuesday, October 27, the POTUS shared a post on Truth Social about the change in the term. He said that they will officially ban the term AI, writing:

“When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be. In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, ‘AI/Artificial Intelligence,’ in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Political commentator Matt Walsh shared his thoughts on this post, writing on X (formerly Twitter):

"I have no idea why renaming AI is so bizarrely important to Trump. Nobody cares about the name he chose. Nobody is using it or will use it. And it’s not even technically accurate because “super intelligence” already had an agreed upon, widely adopted definition. This is the weirdest political hill to die on. It gains you nothing."
"Not a single ordinary American in the country, anywhere, cares deeply about making sure people say “SI” instead of “AI.” We are days away from a major election and this bulls**t is the focus? Just baffling," he added.

Walsh had also taken a dig at the potential change in the term in September. He wrote in a post that he was "already cringing at the thought of conservatives" using the term "Super Intelligence".

On September 29, Donald Trump hosted the leaders of many big tech companies to discuss potential AI regulations. The likes of Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Dario Amodei were all in attendance.

After lunch, the POTUS spoke about renaming AI to SI. He also signed an executive order to use "SI" or "Super Intelligence" in government documents. Part of the executive order read:

“[T]he term ‘Super Intelligence’ more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies. It is therefore the policy of my Administration that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch shall use the terms ‘Super Intelligence’ and ‘SI’ in place of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI’ and will not acknowledge the usage of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI’ in any applicable setting.”

In the order, he claimed that the advancements in this technology "increasingly amplify human ingenuity and unlock new forms of creativity". Hence, it represents "not merely artificial intelligence, but a new era of Super Intelligence."
