The French-Iranian author, Marjane Satrapi, passed away at the age of 56. She became famous after her biographical animated feature, named Persepolis, was nominated for Oscars. As per French media, AFP, the close friends and family of Marjane Satrapi released the statement after her death.
The statement said that the female artist passed away because of the sadness she felt after her husband died last year.
“Marjane Satrapi died of sadness a little over a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life,” the statement said.

Marjane was married twice. First, she tied the knot with an Iranian war veteran, Reza, in Iran. She got married to him at the age of 21. Satrapi described her first marriage in detail in Persepolis. Satrapi parted ways with Reza and divorced him around 1993. Following this, she moved to France for good.
After moving to Europe, she married Swedish producer, actor, and screenwriter Mattias Ripa. They lived together in Paris until he sadly passed away in April last year. Marjane did not have any kids from her relationships.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s office announced the author’s death on June 3 in a statement.
“Her passing marks the loss of a leading figure in French culture and a freedom-loving artist whose work carried a universal message and earned her immense international acclaim,” the statement said.
Besides writing, Marjane also co-directed the 2007 animated film adaptation of Persepolis. This made her the first woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
