Her agency, Creative Artists Agency, shared with E! News that O'Hara passed away “following a brief illness” in Los Angeles. The actress had been diagnosed with a rare congenital disease, cardiac inversus, or dextrocardia with situs inversus and has been candid about it over the years. In a 2021 interview, she joked,

“I’m a freak, yeah! I love Western medicine, I just don't want to be a part of it."
