Chris Brown reportedly arrived at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday, October 26, for his sentencing. The singer pleaded guilty to physically assaulting a man at a bar in Mayfair in 2023.
The Under the Influence singer was accused of hitting Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, in February 2023. He initially denied the allegations, but the prosecutors claimed that a surveillance camera caught the brawl. Chris Brown had left London after the incident.
However, when he returned to the UK in 2025, he was arrested in May 2025. He reportedly posted bail worth £5 million to remain out, and has even toured since then. In July this year, Brown pleaded guilty to the charge of one count of affray.
According to NBC News, after his plea, the prosecutors dropped the charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and having an offensive weapon, a bottle. Notably, Brown's friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to the charges related to the incident.
Claire Campbell, a senior prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service, said at the time (via AP News):
"This was a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice."
“This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable, and the Crown Prosecution Service will work tirelessly – with the police and partners across the criminal justice system – to pursue cases like this and prove that no one is above the law,” Campbell added.
Meanwhile, Brown has been touring in Europe and North America since last summer.
Chris Brown's sentence was determined after his appearance in court

As he appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday, a video of the alleged incident was shown. According to Metro, it showed the singer hitting Abraham Diaw with a glass bottle, while Omololu Akinlolu also joined in on the attack.
The judge sentenced Brown to eight months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for 12 months. His lawyer, Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC, said that the singer has offered a "profound apology" to everyone for the incident. She added:
"This is an ugly and unattractive incident. It is, however, an incident which was very short-lived, lasting something more than 17 seconds but no more than 20."
"It is something which undoubtedly would have caused distress to those who are present and for which Mr Brown... offers a profound apology to all those present," she added.
Meanwhile, the Crown Prosecution Service stated that Chris Brown "struck him [Diaw] twice over the head" with a glass bottle. They added:
"They continued their assault whilst the victim attempted to flee through the club."
Meanwhile, according to the BBC, Judge Tony Baumgartner said at the sentencing:
"The repeated use of a glass bottle in that way... was plainly dangerous. It carried the risk of causing significantly more serious injury than was ultimately sustained."
He added that while the incident was "short", it was "intense", and added that Brown would not get any privileges because of his fame.
