What are the charges against Keke Wyatt? Details explored after songstress denies reports of child cruelty & other accusations

Keke Wyatt was reportedly arrested in Georgia on Sunday, September 20. According to USA Today, she was booked into the Henry County jail but was released two days later.

The R&B singer, whose real name is Ke'Tara Shavon "Keke" Wyatt, reportedly faces three charges. According to the aforementioned report, she has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, and third-degree cruelty to children as a misdemeanor. It is unclear what incident led to this arrest or the charges.

Notably, under Georgia law, third-degree cruelty to children doesn't necessarily mean violence against children. It could also mean a child being forced to witness violence or battery. After her arrest on September 20, Keke Wyatt spent two days in jail before being released after her $1050 bond was paid.

Notably, the singer's representatives have denied all these charges, claiming that it was just a "simple assault". In an Instagram statement on Friday, September 25, they wrote:

"Contrary to information currently being circulated, the Henry County court documentation reflects one charge: SIMPLE ASSAULT."

"We are not offering excuses or asking anyone to prejudge the circumstances surrounding the case. We are simply asking that facts be reported responsibly and that inaccurate information, particularly information involving children, not continue to be repeated as fact. Keke will respect the judicial process and address the matter through the appropriate legal channels," they added.

The statement further urged media channels to verify the information first. However, CBS News reports that Keke Wyatt's statement and the booking records at the Henry County jail are contradictory.

Meanwhile, the singer's statement added that her work schedule remains unaffected and she will continue to fulfill her commitments.

Keke Wyatt's old stabbing incident resurfaces amidst her recent arrest

Following her arrest in Georgia, an incident from 2002 when Keke Wyatt stabbed her ex-husband, Rahmat Morton, has resurfaced. Morton was her road manager, and they got married in 2000.

However, in 2002, the R&B singer was arrested for stabbing him at their home. The Shelbyville police responded to a call and found Morton with stab wounds on his arm, chest, and back. Wyatt claimed that she stabbed him in self-defense, and the case against her was eventually dismissed.

In a 2012 interview with Essence, Keke Wyatt said about the incident:

"People are going to say what they’re going to say. All I know is the average person isn’t going to stab someone just for the heck of it — my life was in danger. People won’t understand until they walk in my shoes. I felt so bad for what I did, but I couldn’t let it consume me. It was my faith in God, and my family that helped me through this. Those are the people that really know what happened, and they don’t judge me."

Keke Wyatt and Rahmat Morton had four kids together. Three of their children were Keyver, Rahjah Ke’, and Ke’Tarah Victoria. The R&B singer also gave birth to a stillborn daughter named Heaven. The former couple got divorced in 2009.

Wyatt then married Michael Ford in 2010 and had four kids with him: Ke’Mar Von, Wyatt Michael, Ke’Yoshi, and Kendall Miguel. They were married until 2017, before Keke Wyatt tied the knot with Zackariah Darring in 2018. They had two children together, Ke’Zyah and Ke’Riah, before getting divorced in 2024.
