Actor, comedian, and producer Chris Rock recently recalled an incident that he said "f*cks with him". He said that he once didn't pay for a lawyer for his friend's brother despite having the means to do so.
Chris Rock is currently promoting his upcoming movie Misty Green, which he has directed and also stars in. It is scheduled to be released on October 9 and also stars Rosalind Eleazar, Daniel Kaluuya, and Anna Kendrick, among others. Rock also gave an extensive interview with The New York Times, released on October 3.
During the conversation, he was asked about stars being canceled, especially black artists. Chris Rock, who has a net worth of $60 million (via Celebrity Net Worth), recalled an incident from his life and said:
"I grew up at 619 Decatur Street, between Howard and Saratoga. A guy named Roger Logan, who I grew up with and was one of my best friends’ brothers, went to jail for years for a murder he didn’t commit. And here’s the weird thing: His brother used to plead with me to pay for a lawyer for Roger, and I never did it."
"I always had a no-lawyer thing. I’ll pay your mortgage; there’s a bunch I’ve paid for, education and all sorts of sh*t. I always stay out of lawyers because it’s so open-ended. And it still f*cks with me. I had the means to help him, and I didn’t. I don’t know if we could’ve got him out or not, but still," he added.
Rock said that when a black man faces allegations, "white people believe every accusation is a conviction."

The comedian, actor, and director further shared his thoughts on false accusations against black people, especially men. He extended his thoughts after sharing the aforementioned incident with his friend's brother and said:
"So all that to say, Black men get accused of [expletive] they didn’t do all the time, every day. We let Black men out of jail and go: 'Whoops! That Black guy just did 30 years, too bad.' So to answer your question, hopefully I don’t get accused of anything, but it’s real when people get accused of things, and you better be real sure they did it."
Chris Rock also recalled an incident about his grandfather, claiming that he killed a man. He said that his grandfather thought their neighbor was having an affair with his wife, so he "blew him away." He said that he went to jail, but became a reverend of a church after coming back.
He used this example to say that in the real world, "we have to live with each other." He added that victims or people can decide whether to forgive or not, but said that "there’s a time limit in the real world."
Rock also added that he has been in police lineups "two, three times" as well. He said that "your whole life could be over" if someone points to you out of a lineup.
