What is Desiigner’s real name? Details explored amid rapper’s arrest on domestic violence charges

Rapper Desiigner was arrested on Monday on a domestic violence charge in Horry County, South Carolina, where he was taken into custody.

Desiigner, whose real name is Sidney Royel Selby III, has been charged with a third-degree domestic violence charge, though the details of the case have not been made public. In fact, it still remains unclear whether he is still in custody of if he has been released on bond. The details behind the incident that led to his arrest have also not been revealed yet.

This is not the rapper, who is best known for his 2015 breakout hit Panda, first brush with the law. He had faced a federal indecent exposure charge in 2023 after he had an incident on an international flight. Though he had only received a probation, community service, and a fine. Besides that, there is also a history of a road rage incident in New York, for which he was arrested way back at the beginning of his career.

Desiigner has vocally spoken about his struggles with mental health, which, according to him, leads to such behaviour. It was also attributed to complications with his medication. In 2024, he posted about dealing with these problems.

“For the past few months I have not been OK, and I have been struggling to come to terms with what is going on. While overseas for a concert I performed at, I had to be admitted in to a hospital, I was not thinking clearly. They gave me meds, and I had to hop on a plane home. I am ashamed of my actions that happened on that plane. I landed back to the states, and am admitting my self in a facility to help me. I will be cancelling all of my shows and any obligations until further notice. Mental health is real guys, please pray for me. If your not feeling like yourself please get help.”
