Christy Carlson Romano, a former Disney Channel actress, broke down in tears when she disclosed that a recent cancer screening test had come back positive. On February 17, the 41-year-old gave the heartfelt update, stating that although her husband's results were clear, hers were not. The Even Stevens alumna disclosed that because of a significant family history of the disease, she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, made the decision to get screened for cancer.As she wept, Romano said:“I got the results back a little bit before filming down in Florida. My husband’s [results] came back completely negative. Mine did not come back negative.”The test result, Christy Carlson Romano explained, does not yet constitute a formal cancer diagnosis. According to her, the next step is to have a PET scan to find out where the disease might be and whether it is "stageable." She did, however, mention that she has been "fighting with companies" to get insurance to fund the scan.She went on to talk about her daughters, Isabella, who is 9 years old, and Sofia, who is 7 years old:"I'm sure people think I'm overreacting. But I'm not, because cancer is pretty serious. Man, I have two little girls."Family history and recent loss influenced Christy Carlson Romano's decisionChristy Carlson Romano's family is no stranger to cancer. While her father and grandmother succumbed to it, her mother, who also had the disease, “beat it.” When considering the tragic passing of James Van Der Beek, who died at the age of 48 after a fight with colorectal cancer, the actress broke down in tears. She referred to the actor as “a pillar of our community,” as she spoke about him: "I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch. His family's amazing. He's a pillar of our community in Texas. They always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he's not with us anymore, and cancer is everywhere, which is why I got this test."Christy added:"When you're somebody like me, you gotta take life a day at a time, really be grateful for all the amazing stuff around you. So know that I have a loving family around me to support me, and gonna keep fighting for answers and eventually giving you updates."Nervous and scaredThe actress revealed that she is anxious about what lies ahead. Being the mother of two young daughters, Christy Carlson Romano said that her anxiety is real and is not 'overreacting' as it may seem to people.It has been only a little over a year since the actress was injured. The Kim Possible voice actress was accidentally shot while she and her husband, Rooney, had gone clay pigeon shooting on his birthday. Another group had fired the way Romano and her husband were. Referring to that incident, she said:“This is a very vulnerable time for me. About 367 days since I got shot in the face,” She continued:“It’s time to have a strong sense of faith and know that it’s in God’s hands, most of it. I’m sure people think I’m overreacting, but I’m not, because cancer is pretty serious, and I have two little girls.”Christy Carlson Romano is staying positive Amidst the fear and uncertainty, the actress has named her husband and daughters, Isabella and Sofia, as her biggest support. Her husband, Rooney, commented on her post:“You got this my beautiful wife. We will figure this out and destroy any problem that comes your way. I love you beyond words.”Christy Carlson Romano is currently in Florida shooting a movie while she waits for further medical evaluation. She concluded the video by saying that she is grateful for everything and will keep fighting the disease with support from her loved ones and fans, and will be updating her fans.
