While the billionaire pop star-turned-entrepreneur Taylor Swift tied the knot with NFL star Travis Kelce in a grand wedding on July 3, 2026, in New York City's Madison Square Garden, her security guard, Kirk Schwabe, a former Chicago-based police officer who was also her teacher in high school, took his last breath on Friday, the day the Wildest Dreams singer got hitched to the 36-year-old Kelce.

According to USA Today, Kirk Schwabe, who passed away at 69, had metastatic kidney cancer, which was the primary reason for his unfortunate death. Following Schwabe's death, his daughter Sarah Gordon, while speaking highly of her late father for being a person who genuinely cared for people, told The Telegraph:

"My dad had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued and protected. Whether you were family, one of his students, or someone like Taylor whose path crossed his, he cared deeply about people. That's the legacy he leaves behind."

It was Taylor's father, Scott Swift, who requested Kirk Schwabe to be the Enchanted hitmaker's security guard in 2009. After retiring as a police officer, Schwabe became a teacher at Hendersonville High School, where he taught criminal justice, as per USA Today. Before Taylor Swift opted for homeschooling, the Actually Romantic singer attended Hendersonville High School for two years from 2004 to 2006.

While the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, joined Taylor Swift in holy matrimony at a lavish wedding ceremony attended by high-profile celebrities, Kirk Schwabe, during a conversation in July 2026 with The Telegraph, regarding Swift said:

"I do trust Taylor’s judgment. She knows what’s best."

Kirk also recalled motivating Swift when she was on the rise, and said:

"I told her, you’re a superstar. This is not fun and games no more. You are it. Everything keeps going up and up and up, and the sky’s the limit for you."

After being the Bad Blood singer, Taylor Swift's teacher as well as her security guard for multiple years, Kirk Schwabe, told The Telegraph that his job after a point became overwhelming and stressful. He noted:

"I said, 'Taylor, look, I'm burnt out, I can't keep up.' I think you're better [off] getting a professional security guard to come and protect you. I still love you; we're still on good terms, but I can't do it anymore."
