Letitia Cuney, 53, a finalist on Britain's Got Talent back in 2024, and her partner, Cheryl Pierre, 47, passed away after suffering injuries in a car accident in Cambridgeshire. Their relatives are paying heartfelt respects to their lives and legacy.

Letitia Cuney and her partner were involved in a two-vehicle accident on December 28, 2025, on the A10 near Chittering, Cambridgeshire. Cuney and Pierre, who were sitting in their white Nissan Qashqai, collided with a silver BMW 520D, which was driven by a 54-year-old man from Haddenham.

Cuney, who was driving the car, died from her injuries on December 30 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Pierre, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died several days later on January 1, 2026.

The man from Haddenham has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving and possession of Class A drugs. He has since been bailed pending further investigation.

Family tributes pour in

In a statement through the police, Cuney's family remembered her as a "true legend" and a "force to be reckoned with." Born and raised in the United States in a military family, Cuney made what her family described as a "courageous decision" to move to England with her one-year-old child, having never visited the country before.

They said the move was driven by the UK's more progressive laws around same-sex relationships, meaning Cuney and her family could live openly and safely. She went on to build a fulfilling career as a teacher across Essex and Northamptonshire, where she became known affectionately as "Miss Cuney" and was often described by pupils as the funniest teacher in the school.

Pierre's family, meanwhile, remembered her as a "completely selfless" woman who had devoted her life to her children. They recalled her as the centre of their family - someone who united people, was always there to support and was warm, humorous and stylishly unique. Pierre had recently become a grandmother and, her family said, "absolutely adored" her new grandchild.

Letitia Cuney's Britain's Got Talent

As a member of the community choir Northants Sings Out (NSO), which went on to the finals of Britain's Got Talent in 2024, Letitia Cuney gained widespread recognition as she often took the center stage during performances, such as the group's iconic performances of Fatboy Slim's Praise You, which judge Simon Cowell praised.

In 2025, NSO embarked on a UK tour called Club Classics Live on Stage, honoring legendary dance songs from decades past, in response to their popularity on the show. For almost ten years, Cunley was an important member of the choir, frequently performing and making jokes about how the choir director had "stolen her dance moves" to instruct the other members.

Letitia Cuney and her partner, Cheryl Pierre, will be greatly missed. Their love, kindness and energy will live on.
