The tension between Kid Cudi and M.I.A. escalated when the British singer filed a lawsuit against the rapper after she was removed from his ‘Rebel Ragers’ tour. Earlier, on May 4, Cudi informed his fans that the female singer would no longer be the part of his ongoing tour via IG story.

Kid Cudi dismissed M.I.A. from the ‘Rebel Ragers’ tour shortly after his tour kicked off. She was removed for her supposed political comments during a show in Dallas on May 3. She made comments that some thought were about immigrants, but M.I.A. claimed they were a reference to her track “ILLYGIRL.”

M.I.A. initially said she was cancelled for being a “brown” Republican voter. After being removed from the tour, she clarified on social media that she can’t vote in the U.S.

Following this, the female singer’s tour removal happened.

The lawsuit claims that Cudi’s statement was untrue and that he persuaded Live Nation to terminate its agreement with M.I.A. and her company, Neet Touring.

“Kid Cudi’s motivations are purely commercial,” the complaint said. “He has already been forced to cancel a Tour date due to low ticket sales. He has ridiculed and attempted to ‘cancel’ M.I.A. to market the Tour and sell tickets.”

According to the lawsuit, the rapper asked Live Nation to add M.I.A. to the ‘Rebel Ragers’ tour, where she was promised more than $2.8 million. Because of tour problems, M.I.A. had to skip on a private event offer worth almost $300k, as well as deals for merchandise and licensing. M.I.A. further claimed that she and her son also got death threats after being taken off the tour.

Therefore, she wants the court to make Cudi pay her the $2.8M, along with extra damages and legal fees.

What did M.I.A. say during Kid Cudi’s Rebel Ragers Tour?

On May 3, Kid Cudi performed in Dallas at the Dos Equis Pavilion. On the stage, the female singer was booed during her viral rant. She said:

“I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.”

In another remark, she allegedly said:

“I can’t do ‘Illegal,’ though some of you could be in the audience.”

Kid Cudi dropped her as the opener for The Rebel Ragers Tour after her alleged political remarks, stating on Instagram that he won’t tolerate offensive comments at his shows. Kid Cudi wrote:

“M.I.A is no longer on this tour. I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didnt want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood.”

He continued:

“After the last couple shows, I've been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase. Thank you for understanding.”

Kid Cudi started his tour with Phoenix on April 28. Big Boi, me nü, A-TRAK, and DOT DA GENIUS are other special guests of his tour, besides M.I.A.
