It was podcaster Savannah Chrisley’s third day on The View, and she made her thoughts clear about Trump. On the February 19 episode of the talk show, where Chrisley is filling in for Alyssa Farah Griffin, she had a clash with co-host Sunny Hostin.
At one point during the conversation, Whoopi Goldberg mentioned Trump’s speech to the Black community. During the speech, the president also complimented Nicki Minaj’s nails. Savannah Chrisley said:
“I think you know when it comes to the event that happened yesterday, what's so hard for me to witness is people stating that the President is a racist because I've seen him firsthand. He saved one of my best friends lives, a black woman…”
Sunny Hostin interrupted and said:
“He’s a racist.”
Savannah Chrisley responded:
“No, he saved her life. He did.”
However, Hostin reiterated that Trump is a racist. Whoopi Goldberg then explained that she and others viewed the situation differently because of certain actions taken in the past. She said that Trump's targeting of diversity programs with executive orders and claiming they harmed national unity caused concern.
She also mentioned past racist posts about the Obamas and efforts to seek the death penalty for the Exonerated Five, even after they were cleared. She added that in the 1970s, the President had been accused of refusing to rent apartments to Black tenants. She said these past actions made it hard for many people to accept his behavior.
Savannah Chrisley asked if this was an “accusation,” but Goldberg replied that it was a “proven fact.”
Savannah Chrisley says the White House failed to “protect minority groups”: Here’s what happened
After some discussion, Sunny Hostin claimed once again that the President is racist, and there were no second thoughts about speaking the truth. She went on to say:
“And the most recent thing that he did by posting on Truth Social the Obamas depicted as apes in the Lion King where there are no apes in the Lion King. That was a racist act. He tried to blame a staffer. A staffer did not do it. He did it.”
Savannah Chrisley claimed that it was not the case, as the staff member themselves posted the clip. She also said:
“I agree wholeheartedly that the White House failed when it came to the posting of that video because it is the White House's responsibility to protect the minority groups that lost friendships and relationships over just standing for President Trump. So, the White House failed on that.”
Sunny Hostin then asked Savannah Chrisley who the staffer was. She responded that two people had the login access to the President’s social media accounts. Hostin asked if the one responsible for the post had been fired, and Chrisley replied that they had not. Meanwhile, Goldberg joked:
“This is the good thing about this show. Everybody has an opinion and we say, ‘I don't agree. I don't think this is cool.’ And we can have these conversations and then we go away and talk about our br* size.”
According to The Tennessean, Savannah Chrisley has joined The View for a four-day stint, which ends on February 20.
