NBC journalist Kristen Welker is at the center of a public dispute with President Donald Trump, after she described his candidate endorsement record as "mixed" during a live segment for a local Washington, DC affiliate. The segment aired prior to Sunday's edition of Meet the Press.Now Trump, who is eighty years old, has claimed that Kristen Welker "will be reported" to the Federal Communications Commission over the remarks. The president took to his Truth Social account on Sunday, August 30, to respond."Kristen Welker, the unpopular 'hostess' of the once great Meet the Press, now considered Meet the Fake Press, just stated that Donald Trump has 'mixed results' on his endorsements of candidates, when the recent WINS of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the long term," he wrote.Kristen Welker, who is fifty years old, had made the comments during a live shot, sharing that,“He, of course, has endorsed a slate of candidates in the primaries. Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment," he wrote.The president also attached a graph to his post showing alleged endorsement records from the Republican primaries, which directly contradict the comments Welker made. NBC wasted no time responding. A spokesperson for the network told CNN on Sunday that "Kristen is one of the best in the business and we stand by her."Trump's post also made clear that he did not consider Kristen Welker the sole target of his frustration, stating she was "not the only" journalist to report what he called an inaccuracy. He went on to accuse left-leaning media of going "out of their way to harass, demean, and libel anything 'TRUMP.'" FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez took to X on Sunday to address the president's claims directly."As I've said many times, the FCC has no authority to punish journalists this administration doesn't like," she wrote."These threats to press freedom are dangerous. As per a report shared by The Guardian, the two share a notably contentious relationship.In June, Trump walked out of an hour-long interview with Kristen Welker after being asked, among other topics he found uncomfortable, about having pledged "no new wars" during his successful run for a second presidency. Trump had started a war in Iran alongside Israel, and during the interview denied ever having guaranteed there would be no wars if he returned to the Oval Office.Before his exit, he made his feelings about the network abundantly clear."You're a one-sided crooked network," Trump said at the time.
