Timothy Busfield's motion to dismiss a child abuse case against him was accepted on Friday, October 16. The Judge claimed that the prosecutors "failed to act in a fair and impartial manner".
The West Wing actor was initially arrested in January this year after allegations were laid against him. However, a judge ordered his release soon after. In February, he was indicted on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child. He has denied all allegations against him.
According to Reuters, State District Judge Joseph Montano in New Mexico dismissed the case on Friday. Judge Montano claimed that the prosecution's actions "had the practical effect of unilaterally withholding witnesses requested by the grand jurors." The judge added:
"The prosecuting attorney failed to act in a fair and impartial manner."
The prosecuting lawyers reportedly didn't instruct the jury properly about testimony from additional witnesses. The prosecutors reportedly told them that at least eight jury members would have to agree to call a witness, which was incorrect.
Meanwhile, Timothy Busfield, who has a net worth of $500,000 (via Celebrity Net Worth), hasn't shared a comment at the time of writing. He has, however, previously denied all allegations against him.
The accusations came from twin boys who worked on the series The Cleaning Lady, directed by Timothy Busfield. The two boys, who were under 13 years old at the time, accused him of groping and sexual assault that allegedly took place between 2022 and 2024. They alleged that Busfield "would tickle them on the stomach and legs" and touch them inappropriately.
The actor-producer's lawyers, however, have claimed that these allegations are baseless. They alleged that the mother of the two boys is taking revenge because they were fired from the series.
Timothy Busfield's wife, Melissa Gilbert, reacts after child abuse case against him is dismissed

Melissa Gilbert has subtly reacted to the child abuse case against Timothy Busfield being dismissed on Friday. While she hasn't made a direct statement, she shared a quote on her Instagram story that read:
"So shines a good deed in a weary world."
The Little House on the Prairie actor also shared a screenshot of a New York Times headline about the dismissal.
Melissa Gilbert has always been supportive of her husband and vehemently denied the allegations in April this year. She appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and said about the allegations:
"This has been the most traumatizing experience of our lives. Our life as we knew it is done. We are grieving what we had. All of our plans, all of our dreams, all of our ideas, all of our projects. For Tim, it's done. He's canceled ... even if he's exonerated, he will always be that guy. The last person in the world who would hurt a child."
Notably, Timothy Busfield also faced sexual assault allegations from two women in 1994 and 2012. Criminal charges weren't filed in either case, and he settled one case after countersuing.
During the interview, Gilbert, who married Busfield in 2013, said that she spoke to him about the past allegations as well. She said that he will speak about it publicly "when the time is right".
