Dawson's Creek actor James Van Der Beek has passed away at the age of 48.

In a statement shared by his family, it was announced that James Van Der Beekhas died after he was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."
James was suffering from colorectal cancer, which is formed from growths in the colon's inner lining. He was diagnosed with stage three in the latter half of 202,3 but only revealed it to the public in November 2024.
Van Der Beek had been receiving treatment for the same. However, he expressed that during the treatment he reached his lowest point, especially when he was losing core of his identity.
"All these beautiful things that I love, and I used to define myself as - a father, a provider, a husband - all that got taken away, or at least paused. I had to sit there and say, 'Well, what am I?' And it was, 'I'm still worthy of love.'"

James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, have been married for 15 years and share six children, Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua, and Jeremiah. The two met in 2009 in Israel during a group trip and got married a year later. At the time, James shared
"The woman I love did me the honor of became my wife today. I look forward to earning her for the rest of my life."
Ever since his diagnosis, the actor, who was once known as a '90s heartthrob, spent a lot of his time raising awareness and funds about the disease.
In an interview with Business Insider, he said, "I've learned a lot, If I can save anyone from having to go through this, that's magic."
