Swedish singer Zara Larsson defended Chappell Roan for the latter’s comments about paparazzi encounters. For context, Roan has met with criticism for being vocal about people and paparazzi crossing boundaries. According to Billboard, the singer was criticised after Catherine Harding and Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter was yelled at by paparazzi for walking in front of Roan. Roan later clarified that he had nothing to do with the incident.

Meanwhile, in an interview with The Guardian, Larsson talked about the tussles between the paparazzi and Roan. She said:

“The more people hate her, the more I love her. I don’t like how she’s being treated at all. When a woman has boundaries, I think people freak out. Men can do violent criminal things and people applaud them, but when a woman says, ‘Stop following me,’ it’s controversial? It’s like: you guys just hate women, actually.”

Speaking about herself, Zara Larsson said that she liked getting attention, irrespective of its forms. She remembered that when she was younger, she couldn’t wait to have paparazzi outside her house someday. Meanwhile, reflecting on her recent US theatre tour, she said:

“I’m having the time of my life. The energy is amazing in these shows. But hopefully this is the last time I’ll do venues this size.”

About her fifth studio album, Midnight Sun, Zara Larsson said the change she witnessed with this work was her attitude. According to her, she evolved into a writer. Contrary to what people believed, she felt that personal songwriting was not sad at all.

What did Zara Larsson say about working with everyone on Midnight Sun?

In September 2025, Zara Larsson sat down on the Zach Sang Show, where she talked about Midnight Sun. She said she had learned that in the music industry, and in creative work in general, working with others was very important. She explained that success often came from teamwork and finding the right people who made her feel comfortable being her true self. She went on to say:

“It was a very small group of people and I feel like all of us just came together and just like vibrated on the same frequency. And when people ask me, ‘Oh how did you write this song or how did this song come about?’ I'm just like I don't even know. Like it just appeared.”

Zara Larsson added:

“It just all of a sudden it was there. Like it was so easy. It was such a flow. It was like we all just like connected like our brains to the creative gods and like surrendered.”

According to Zara Larsson, even though they had an equal split, she did not do an equal amount of work. There were moments when she would become nervous. Discussing her aspirations, she said she still wanted the big crowd. Not only that, but she also wants validation. In the process, she said she would like to merge her personality with the music.
