Where are Glee Stars now? What we know as Ryan Murphy talks reboot

Glee fans have a reason to be excited. Ryan Murphy, the sixty-year-old creator behind the beloved musical comedy series, revealed at the Wednesday, September 23 premiere of American Horror Story season 13 that a reboot script is already done. As per a report shared by Entertainment Tonight, Murphy confirmed he had wrapped the script just hours before stepping onto the red carpet.

"I just finished the script an hour ago. We have a script. Brad [Falchuk] and Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something," he said.

Murphy also confirmed he had already been in contact with around ten of the show's original cast members, which included stars like Lea Michele, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Amber Riley, Kevin McHale and Matthew Morrison, among others. The late Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera, who passed away in 2013 and 2020, respectively, were also part of the original lineup.

"I've been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It's very sweet. They all had a lot of questions, but they were all enthusiastic about the idea," the producer shared.

"Nobody's read it. I don't know ... we'll see," he added.

Glee debuted in May 2009 and wrapped its six-season run in March 2015, leaving behind a fanbase that has clearly never let go.

Here Is What the Glee Cast Has Been Up To Since the Show Wrapped:

Lea Michele:

Lea Michele played Rachel Berry on Glee, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination back in 2010. She went on to work with Glee creator Ryan Murphy again on Scream Queens, though that show only ran for two seasons. Michele also picked up a role in 2017 on ABC's The Mayor, before her career took a significant turn toward the stage.

In July 2022, Michele stepped into the lead role of Fanny Brice in Broadway's Funny Girl, taking over after Beanie Feldstein's departure from the production. It turned out to be a defining chapter in her career.

Off-screen, Michele had previously dated her Glee costar, the late Cory Monteith. She later dated actor Matthew Paetz for two years, and then Dimension 404 costar Robert Buckley. She eventually got together with clothing company president Zandy Reich, and the two announced their engagement in April 2018 before tying the knot in March 2019. The couple welcomed their first child in August 2020, with a second following in August 2024.

Michele's time on Glee wasn't without controversy. In 2020, her former costar Samantha Ware publicly accused her of making her life a "living hell" on set and claimed Michele had threatened to have her fired from the series. Michele later issued an apology for her behavior.

Jane Lynch:

Jane Lynch was already a well-known face in Hollywood before Glee came along. That said, her role as the sharp-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the series opened even more doors for her. She landed her own show, Angel from Hell, and also picked up stints on Criminal Minds and The Stinky and Dirty Show.

Hosting Hollywood Game Night turned out to be a fruitful endeavor for Lynch, as she took home two Emmy wins for her work on the show. Her Emmy run didn't stop there. A guest role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel added another Emmy to her collection in 2019. She also lent her voice to the character Donna on the HBO Max series Velma. Much like her Glee costar Lea Michele, Lynch stepped onto the Funny Girl Broadway stage, though she departed the production in August 2022.

On the personal front, Lynch wed Dr. Lara Embry in 2010, and the two went their separate ways in 2013. Years later, in 2022, Lynch shared that she had already quietly married her partner Jennifer Cheyne the year prior.

Matthew Morrison:

Matthew Morrison, who played the beloved Spanish teacher Will Schuester on Glee, kept himself busy on the small screen after the show wrapped, picking up roles on The Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy and American Horror Story. As a Broadway veteran, he also made his way back to the stage in the musical adaptation of Finding Neverland.

In April 2022, Morrison joined season seventeen of So You Think You Can Dance as a judge. His time on the show was short-lived, though, as he was let go after sending text messages to a contestant that she found uncomfortable.

On the personal side, Morrison and his longtime partner Renee Puente tied the knot in 2014. The couple welcomed their son Revel in October 2017, with their daughter Phoenix arriving in 2021.

Chris Colfer:

Chris Colfer has kept himself busy since his days as Kurt Hummel on Glee, though it is his work as an author that has really taken off. He went on to pen six volumes of his Land of Stories series, aimed at children and young adults. Acting-wise, he picked up a notable role on the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland.

Kevin McHale:

Kevin McHale, who played wheelchair-bound Artie Abrams on Glee, actually had a musical background well before the show, having been part of the boy band NLT. Since Glee wrapped, McHale has largely kept a low profile, though he did host the TV series Virtually Famous and picked up a role on the spin-off American Horror Stories, among a few other projects. Music has remained a constant for him. McHale put out his debut album, Boy, in 2019 and has also earned writing credits on the children's TV musical The AlphaBeatZ.

Naya Rivera:

Naya Rivera, who played the fiercely loyal Santana Lopez on Glee, went on to act in Devious Maids for Lifetime and the YouTube original Step Up: High Water after the series ended. Her romantic life made headlines too. Rivera had a very public run with rapper Big Sean, which included an engagement that didn't last, before she surprised everyone with a wedding to actor Ryan Dorsey. They had a son, Josey Hollis, in 2015. Things between Rivera and Dorsey were far from smooth. Divorce plans surfaced soon after Josey was born, then a reconciliation, and then in November 2017, Rivera was arrested in West Virginia on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after allegedly striking Dorsey while they were out walking with their son.

July 8, 2020 was the last time Rivera was seen alive. She had rented a pontoon boat on California's Lake Piru. The boat was later found near the shore with Josey, then four years old, alone and asleep onboard. A search followed. Five days later, on July 13, her body was pulled from the water. Authorities called it a "tragic drowning accident," ruling out foul play and suicide.

Cory Monteith:

Cory Monteith played Finn Hudson, Glee's loveable quarterback, for the duration of the show's run until his passing in 2013. He had been dating his costar Lea Michele at the time, though behind the scenes, Monteith had long battled substance abuse issues. He was thirty-one years old when he was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver that July.

Two films Monteith had wrapped before his death, All the Wrong Reasons and McCanick, had not yet been released. Both made their premieres at TIFF later that year, after he was gone.
