On October 6, the White House offered clarification after backlash over President Trump’s remarks about Los Angeles and San Diego. Earlier on October 5, the POTUS made an appearance for a midterm rally in Grand Island, Nebraska. While addressing the campaign rally, Trump also talked about the Iran conflict. He allegedly said that LA and San Diego can be attacked by Iran as a ‘small price’ for keeping the nation safe. The president said:“It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego.”After the POTUS faced massive criticism, the White House defended his statement and said that he didn’t mean it. They clarified that the president meant Iran could potentially attack Los Angeles and San Diego. The latest X post read:“No, he didn't, you buffoons. He was saying the U.S. is fighting to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon — which they would if they had the chance.”Trump faced backlash after his remarks on San Diego and LA in NebraskaThe Mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, fired back at the president’s remark, saying that the city is not ‘collateral.’ He also told the POTUS to keep their city out of his ‘reckless’ war talk. Gloria wrote:“San Diego is not collateral damage. We are not expendable. And we are never a "small price to pay." Keep our city out of your reckless war talk.”Further, the mayor of Los Angeles also reacted to Trump’s statement about their city. Karen Bass said that the president’s statements are ‘dangerous’ and that they compromise their safety. She also called out Trump for allegedly encouraging attacks on their people. Karen wrote:“His statements against our city are dangerous and could potentially compromise our safety. The role of a president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American lives. In the face of irresponsible threats, as Angelenos, we know how to stand together and protect our city.”Many others like Gavin Newsom, Jim Acosta, Sydney Kamlager-Dove, Rob Bonta, and James Walkinshaw also criticized the president for his comments on the Iran war.
