According to a recent report by Hollywood Reporter, Sanford and Son star Demond Wilson died recently at the age of 79.

Demond rose to fame by starring in six seasons of the popular sitcom Sanford and Son in the 1970s. He died this Friday in his Palm Springs home of complications due to cancer, his son Demond Wilson Jr told TMZ.

Demond Wilson married Cicely Johnston on May 3, 1974. Johnston used to work as a stewardess before she started modelling. Eventually, she quit her modelling career and became a devoted wife to Wilson.

Wilson played the role of Lamont Sanford, the son of an ageing widower named Fred G. Sanford, proprietor of Sanford and Son Salvage at 9114 South Central Ave. in Watts, in the hit series.

On October 13, 1946, Grady Demond Wilson was born in Valdosta, Georgia. He was raised in Harlem, danced at the Apollo Theater at the age of twelve, and had his Broadway debut at the age of four with William Marshall and Ossie Davis in a revival of the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Green Pastures.

He attended Hunter College and the American Community Theater to study acting before being recruited and injured in Vietnam while serving in the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division. He had appearances in several off-Broadway productions after his 13-month tour concluded in 1968.

1971 was a significant year for Demond since, in addition to All in the Family, he starred in an episode of Mission: Impossible and the Sidney Poitier picture The Organization as Virgil Tibbs.

His other projects include The New Odd Couple and Baby...I'm Back. Wilson also wrote a book titled Black and Blue: The Fed Foxx Story.

About Desmond Wilson's wife, Cicely Johnson

Though less is known about Demond Wilson's wife, Cicely Johnson, she became famous after marrying her husband Wilson. Away from the press, the two had a private wedding, which was attended by close family and friends. They were happily married for more than five decades.

Along with Wilson, Johnson also starred in the hit series Stanford and Son in the 1970s. She worked as a stewardess for an airline and later switched to modelling. In 1974, she was a part of the film Caged Heat, which was directed by Jonathan Demme.

Cicely and Demond have six children, all of whom are now adults. The names of the children are Christopher and Desmond Jr., and Nicole, Melissa, Sarah, and Louise. However, the children's lives have been kept secret, just like most aspects of the family.

Christopher participates in Little League baseball and soccer, while Sarah, a writer and occasional actor, appears to have discovered her calling in her father's industry.
