Diandra Luker is back in the headlines, as her former husband Michael Douglas has opened up about a secret romance he had while the two were still married. In his new memoir One Helluva Ride, the Oscar winner, who is eighty-two years old, reveals that he had a romance with actress Jeanne Tripplehorn on the set of the hit 1992 erotic thriller Basic Instinct. Douglas was married to but separated from Luker at the time of filming, though many had assumed a romance was going on between him and costar Sharon Stone.
Diandra Luker and Michael Douglas were married for twenty-two years in total. Their divorce resulted in one of the largest divorce settlements in Hollywood history, as per a report shared by Hello!
A film producer and the daughter of a Swiss-American diplomat, Diandra Luker first met Douglas when she was a nineteen-year-old student at Georgetown's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. The actor, then thirty-two, was smitten instantly. After two weeks of dating, Douglas had proposed, and six weeks later the couple tied the knot. On December 13, 1978, their son Cameron Douglas was born. It was in 1995 that Diandra Luker officially filed for divorce.
Michael Douglas details secret affair during his marriage to Diandra Luker:

As per a report shared by People, Douglas writes,
"They were so focused on a possible relationship between Sharon and me, they missed the real relationship happening between me and Jeanne."
Douglas and Jeanne Tripplehorn, who is sixty-three years old, took great pains to keep their romance hidden from the cast and crew during filming. While shooting in San Francisco, the two spent considerable time together away from the set. Douglas recalls in the memoir,
"We spent so many hours together, talking, really getting to know each other, enjoying each other's company away from the set and everything else in the world."
In Basic Instinct, Douglas played detective Nick Curran, tasked with untangling a murder case at the center of which was Sharon Stone's elusive character Catherine Tramell. Tripplehorn played police psychologist Dr. Beth Garner, the on-again-off-again romantic interest of Douglas's character. Douglas reflected warmly on Tripplehorn, sharing,
"Jeanne was a special lady. I know people with Basic Instinct were always kind of consumed with Sharon Stone and what might be going on."
Michael Douglas reveals his one clear regret about his marriage to Diandra Luker:

As per a report shared by the Mirror, back in 2017, Michael Douglas took a long look back over his life and landed on one regret. He wished he had ended his marriage to Diandra Luker sooner. Douglas was candid about his feelings, sharing,
"I know I'm going to get into trouble here. I have nothing against her and in fact I'm very fond of my first wife. But we should have ended that marriage eight or ten years earlier."
Douglas also reflected on the role marriage counselling played in prolonging the relationship, adding,
"It took me too long to realise that if you go to a marriage counsellor to resolve problems, it's in his interest to keep the marriage going. Because if I end the marriage he's got no business. I think Diandra would probably say the same thing. That's the only clear regret that I have."
The tension between the former spouses didn't end with the divorce, though. By 2011, Diandra and Douglas were battling it out in court over whether she would be entitled to a portion of his earnings from Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. As the former couple had been married during the production and release of the original Wall Street film, Diandra claimed she was entitled to earnings from the sequel as well. The lawsuit was ultimately dismissed in court.
