According to a recent news report by The Daily Mail, Doja Cat's father Dumisani Dlamini defended himself on the weekend over allegations of being a careless parent and mentioned that Doja was 'brainwashed' by her mother.
The controversy began when the 30-year-old Say So singer was performing at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, Dlamini's home country. Doja Cat's first performance in the nation was called the Global Citizen Move Afrika concert. Doja mentioned that her father did not attend her concert because she didn't message him enough.
Doja Cat's father Dumisani Dlamini is a South-African actor and dancer. Her mother Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer is a painter and clothing designer. The two had a short-lived relationship before splitting. Doja Cat and her elder brother Raman Dalithando Dlamini, grew up with Deborah in California and New York.
While Doja is close to her mother, The Paint the Town Red singer revealed that she had never met Dlamini when questioned about him in an interview with Radio One D.C. In fact, Doja's mother Deborah was the one who shared love for arts with her daughter.
"He's a fantastic actor and dancer. However, I don't really know him," Doja Cat remarked.
According to Rolling Stone, Sawyer and Dlamini had a brief romance after meeting in New York while he was playing in Sarafina! on Broadway.
Doja Cat created her very first song for Sawyer. At the moment, she was eight years old.
She told Billboard, "I don't remember how it goes. Well, I kind of do, and I won't share the lyrics with anyone. I feel a little embarrassed. I have no idea why. I find it to be excessively mushy."
About Doja Cat's controversy
In a recent controversy, Doja Cat's father Dlamini blamed her mother for apparently 'brainwashing her' and denied all allegations of being a careless parent.
The controversy began when the singer had a show scheduled at SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, where her father lived.
Doja Cat claimed to have communicated with her father in TikTok videos titled The Deadbeat Chronicles. She offered him a ticket, but he turned it down, claiming she doesn't "message him enough."
Then, according to Doja Cat, she tricked her father by sending him a link to gay pornography while pretending it was a website where he could purchase tickets for her performance.
Doja Cat, claimed that her father informed her that he couldn't verify the link she supplied because he was "very busy doing costume and rehearsal."
According to the singer, her father kept messaging her while he was at work, claiming he didn't have time to look at the link she sent."I'm just very busy right now," he added as he continued to message me.
Doja Cat claimed that after sending him the link a second time, he clicked on it.
"Darling, what is this?" he murmured. She mimicked her father and said, "Um, this, I, what I'm seeing is gay porn."
She proceeded with her imitation, ' "It's like a porno on my screen and I don't know if it's a scam, 'cause I feel like you're scamming here, so please, sweetheart, I don't know what to do with this - I can't get the ticket." '
In a reply video, Dlamini attacked Deborah Sawyer, the mother of Doja Cat, for what he claimed was a long-standing, false narrative about his attempts to raise their daughter.
