Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the boss of the P&O Ferries owner, DP World, the ports and logistics company, has left the company after ties with Jeffrey Epstein were revealed. According to a report by The Guardian, DP World, which is owned by the emirate's royal family, announced Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem's resignation from his position as the company's chief executive on February 13.
DP World released a statement on Friday saying,
"DP World announced the appointment of His Excellency Essa Kazim as Chairman of its Board of Directors and the appointment of Yuvraj Narayan as Group Chief Executive Officer."
It further said, "DP World affirmed that the new appointments support its strategy for sustainable growth and reinforce its role in strengthening global supply chains and supporting Dubai's position as a leading hub for trade and logistics."
However, it did not mention Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem or any of his wrongdoings. The Sultan, the brother of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who is the head of the FIA, was mentioned in the Epstein files, as disclosed in the recent files released by the Department of Justice.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayems' ties with Jeffrey Epstein
According to the documents released by the US Department of Justice, Sulayem contacted Epstein in 2015. In one incident, he emailed Epstein that he had met a girl “two years ago” and had “the best sex I ever had, amazing body”.
He added:
“She got engaged but now she back with me.”
According to a report by The Guardian, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie revealed that Epstein sent Sulayem an email that said,
"I loved the torture video,”
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem had been credited with transforming DP World from just an operator of Dubai’s Jebel Ali port to one of the world’s largest logistics companies. Two of DP World’s largest international partners, British International Investment (BII) and Canada’s La Caisse pension fund, had announced earlier this week that they would be halting their business with the group for the time being.
However, on Friday, February 13, BII released a statement saying,
“We welcome today’s decision by DP World and look forward to continuing our partnership to advance the development of key African trading ports to unlock the continent’s global trading potential."
Jeffrey Epstein and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem's relationship can be dated back to 2007, as analysed by BBC News Arabic. In a 2013 email, Sulayem is described as "one of his most trusted friends" by Jeffrey.
