As reported by CountyNews.TV on September 13, 2026, James Wehr died at age 27 after a fiery single-vehicle crash in Irvine, California. Irvine police said a 2019 McLaren stopped northbound on Culver Drive at Deerfield Avenue, then traveled at high speed after the light turned green. The driver lost control, struck a curb and a tree, and the car split in two and caught fire around 12:20 am.

Two people were found deceased after firefighters put out the blaze. His family later identified James, co-founder of South OC Cars and Coffee, that day.

Emma Wehr, 26, posted a tribute on Instagram on Sunday. The account has since been set to private. James and Emma married in July 2025.

On Instagram, she wrote, with photos of the two of them:

"I never thought the day would come that I'd have to say such a final goodbye. Getting the opportunity to love you will always be the greatest blessing in my life…"

She continued:

"Like I said in my vows, I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to live my life at the same time that you lived yours. Whether it’s in this lifetime or the next, my heart will always find its way to you. Rest easy, my love."

According to The New York Post, on Monday, September 14, a family member of Alexis "Lexi" Kramer, 22, identified her as the second person in the car. That relative told The New York Post that Kramer flew from Lakeland, Florida, on Friday, September 11. Police have not publicly named a driver.
