Jack Lowden could be the next James Bond, and Gary Oldman appears to know something the rest of us don't. The two actors have shared the screen on Slow Horses since 2022, and Oldman recently sat down for an interview with a Canadian morning program, where he opened up about the 007 casting situation, suggesting a decision has quietly already been made.

"It's been rumored that he is on the shortlist," said Oldman.
"We're going to find out pretty soon, aren't we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack," he added.

The next Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, handling the screenplay. As per Celebrity Net Worth, Lowden's estimated net worth sits at four million dollars. The thirty-six-year-old has been married to Saoirse Ronan. Jack Lowden first crossed paths with the Irish actress on the set of Mary Queen of Scots, and the two began dating in 2018. The couple married in 2024 and welcomed their first child the following year.

Jack Lowden is far from the only name being discussed for the iconic spy role. Tom Holland, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Harris Dickinson have all been linked to 007 at various points, though Amazon has yet to confirm anything officially.

Meanwhile, Ronan has made her own feelings on Bond very clear. The Irish actress sat down with Empire magazine last month while promoting Bad Apples, and didn't hold back about wanting to go villainous on screen.

"I want to go dark," said Ronan.
"I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I'm dead serious. I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there's something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that," added Ronan.

Jack Lowden explains why the writing on Slow Horses won him over:

Back in September 2025, Hunger magazine sat down with Lowden and asked him about his experience working on Slow Horses, specifically whether he had always wanted to do a contemporary spy show given his extensive background in period dramas.

"I'd always wanted to do something more contemporary, yeah. It's saturated here with things that are period. We are absolutely fascinated by our history, which I love anyway because my passion is history — that's what I love to do, that's what I love to read about, so I'm always really thankful when I get something like that," shared Lowden.

He was quick to clarify though, that the spy element of the show wasn't what drew him in.

"With this, I'd never thought, Oh, I want to do something set in the spy world. That wasn't why I wanted to do the job. The reason was because the character — and most of the characters — are so heavily sarcastic and undercutting. So that's why I wanted to do it, because of the writing," he added.

In the same Hunger magazine interview, Lowden was asked whether producing The Outrun alongside his wife Saoirse Ronan had sparked any ambitions to direct.

"It's all I want to do, really, move into that side of things — specifically directing," he shared.

Jack Lowden then elaborated on what was driving that desire, and his answer was refreshingly candid.

"It's probably driven more by a feeling of use rather than any kind of deep, dark desire to create my own version of things. I don't really feel of service in what I do. It's nice to hear that people enjoy things that I'm in, but it's taken me years to work out what I've actually wanted to always do," he continued.
"That experience with The Outrun really was a massive eye-opening moment to me. It's the most alive and useful I've felt in any of my work," he added.
