Jay Harrington is making headlines amid the Cornell University fraternity case, and for once it has nothing to do with his role as Deacon in S.W.A.T. The fifty-four-year-old Massachusetts native, who studied theater at Syracuse University before carving out a television career that spans The Division, Better Off Ted and Benched, is being celebrated online after a story from his college days went viral on Threads amid the Cornell University fraternity case.

A user recalled attending a party at his fraternity house back in the early nineties. They watched Harrington walk a stumbling girl over to a group of women at the party, asking them to please take her home. He had found her upstairs with a couple of guys getting too close. Harrington basically acted like he knew her and brought her straight downstairs.

"We took her out and found some of her sorority sisters on the sidewalk and they took it from there," the user added.

As per reports, the post has drawn widespread admiration online as New York state prosecutors have reopened an investigation into the alleged rape of a woman at a Cornell University fraternity house in 2024.

Austin Highsmith Garces was among those who responded to the post. The actress, who has built a following of more than twelve thousand on Instagram and seven thousand on Threads, had worked with Harrington on S.W.A.T. and weighed in directly.

"I worked with him on S.W.A.T. and can confirm he is a very good person," she shared.

The timing of the viral post is significant. As per a report shared by the BBC, a woman known in court filings as Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit on September 16 against Cornell University, a fraternity house on campus, and seven men she claims drugged and raped her. The men have since been collectively referred to as the "Cornell Seven."

Beyond naming the alleged perpetrators, Jane Doe also accused the Ivy League institution of failing to adequately protect her and hold those responsible to account. Cornell has pushed back on those claims, stating it supported taking the case to a grand jury and has agreed to bring in an independent investigator to examine it further.

The one-hundred-and-one-page civil lawsuit paints a detailed picture of what Jane Doe claims took place. As per a report shared by the BBC, Doe was twenty years old and a Cornell undergraduate when the alleged incident occurred on October 19, 2024. That night, she had been drinking with her sorority sisters before separating from them and making her way alone to the Chi Phi fraternity house in Ithaca, where she had a male friend.

What followed, according to the lawsuit, involved seven fraternity members, alcohol, and the drug ketamine. Doe alleged she was in no condition to consent. The lawsuit also includes an image allegedly pulled from a fraternity group chat, where one member tipped off others about a potential sexual encounter with her, using explicitly vulgar language.

She did not report what happened to Cornell University Police until November 8, 2024, just under three weeks after the alleged assault. Her lawyer described her state in the days that followed as one of trauma, numbness and an inability to process what she had been through. Two of the seven men involved were eventually expelled. Doe herself left the university altogether.

The lawsuit targets the university, the Chi Phi fraternity, her sorority and the men named in the allegations, citing sexual assault and battery among several legal claims. Outrage intensified when it emerged the men had been asked to submit essays as part of their disciplinary process. The Cornell student newspaper's editorial board responded on September 21 by publishing the defendants' names under the headline "Cornell Won't, We Will," a move that ignited fresh anger across social media.

Jay Harrington shares his honest reaction to being excluded from the S.W.A.T. Exiles spinoff:

S.W.A.T. ran for eight seasons on CBS before the network cancelled it for the second time in March 2025, with a spinoff titled S.W.A.T. Exiles announced just two days after the series finale aired. Harrington found out the day before it went public. As per a report shared by TVLine, Shemar Moore personally reached out to the cast to break the news before their representatives even knew.

"He wanted to be the one to tell us, and say 'Your reps will find out shortly,'" Harrington shared.

That being said, Harrington was clear he held no ill feelings toward Moore for signing on solo, adding that in this business nobody gets owed anything simply for putting in their time. What bothered him, he explained, was less about being left out and more about the lack of a simple conversation from the studio about the direction they were taking.
