Lead vocalist of 3 Doors Down, Brad Arnold, has died at the age of 47 following a battle with stage 4 clear cell renal carcinoma kidney cancer.

The rock band confirmed his demise in a post on social media.

“With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones,” the statement read. “His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.”

Fans have since begun wondering about his wife, Jennifer Sanderford. The pair were married since 2009, having tied the knot in a private ceremony in Escatawpa, Mississippi. Sanderford is reportedly a professional barrel racer.

Coming Soon has reported that the two were childhood friends, though they reconnected years later on a blind date. They did not have any kids. Brad Arnold was previously married to Terika Roberts from 2001 to 2007.

Brad Arnold's legacy explored as tributes pour in:

3 Doors Down's statement on Instagram continues:

"As a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners. Brad's songwriting became a cultural touchstone for a generation, producing some of the most enduring hits of the 2000s, including the band's breakout hit, 'Kryptonite, which he wrote in his math class when he was just 15 years old. His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on."

Brad Arnold revealed his cancer diagnosis in May 2025.

“Hey everybody, it’s Brad from 3 Doors Down. I hope you’re having a great day today,” he said in a video shared on social media at the time. “Got some not so good news for you today. So, I’d been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out, and actually got the diagnosis that I had a clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung. And it’s stage four, and that’s not real good.”

Brad Arnold also said,

“But you know what? “We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really sincerely am not scared of it at all. But it is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer. And we’re sorry for that. And I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get. And Ithink it is time for me to go listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit, right?”

Brad Arnold founded the rock band back in 1996 in Escatawpa. He was also famously credited with writing and producing the band’s hit song “Kryptonite,” having penned it at the age of 15. Back in 2021, he opened up with The Young Folks in an interview about what pushed him toward songwriting:

“You know, I think what got me into songwriting the most was I used to enjoy writing poems. We had to take an elective in high school of creative writing, and I took that and I just really, as soon as I started writing little poems and stuff, I really enjoyed it,” he explained. “You can take your mind off somewhere and you can just get to narrate. I’ve always loved music. I can’t remember not beating on the drums and playing on the pots and pans when I was a kid. I’ve always enjoyed playing music. And really, the lyrics to a song, it’s just a poem with a repetitive chorus.”

Brad Arnold also alluded to having an “interesting” relationship with “Kryptonite.”

Arnold said, “The songs grow. It’s interesting to see how the sounds of them change, because when you record a song when it’s new, you’re kind of recording a little baby. As you take a song on tour and play it more and more, it develops and grows muscles and gets bigger and parts change and evolve.”

Tributes have come trickling in online in honor of Brad Arnold. Singer Chris Daughtry penned:

"Sending my love to the Arnold family. Rest easy brother. You will be missed."

The band Creed added,

"Sending love to the Arnold and 3DD family."

Black Stone Cherry, another band, chimed in:

"We are so very sorry. Brad was always such a top notch, class act to us. Even before we were anything at all- he supported us. Such a huge loss and our prayers go out to his family and band."
