Who is Kimberly Perry’s husband Johnny Costello? The Band Perry member Neil Perry accuses sister of choosing husband over him

Johnny Costello, the husband of The Band Perry lead singer Kimberly Perry, is making headlines after her brother and former bandmate Neil Perry, thirty-six, accused her of kicking him out of the group one day after his birthday. Neil claimed that his objection to Costello joining the band was the root cause of their bitter fallout.

Neil claimed Wednesday that he and his siblings weren't on speaking terms in the year that followed the act's music hiatus, adding that

"I explicitly asked my sister not to misrepresent my support for the current version of the band."

Kimberly has been married twice. She was previously married to former professional baseball player J.P. Arencibia on June 12, 2014, before she secretly married Costello on June 17, 2021. As per a report shared by Borderzine back in 2010, Costello was born in Germany and raised in Dallas, Texas, where he learned his craft in church playing sheet and chord music on an acoustic guitar. He currently has more than four thousand followers on Instagram.

Costello, also a musician, once described his sound as,

"...say your cup of water is folk music, and the little lemon on top of the glass is blues. It's just got a little blues influence on it."

Johnny Costello joining The Band Perry was one of three options Neil Perry was given by Kimberly:

The Band Perry's original lineup consisted of Kimberly on vocals, Neil on mandolin and Reid on bass. The trio announced their hiatus in 2023 to focus on individual projects before Kimberly floated the idea of a reunion. Neil shared on Instagram that Reid had disengaged from both personal and business matters around that time, adding that

"Kimberly came to me about bringing the band out of hiatus, and we initially agreed that moving forward with Reid was not something we were prepared to do."

Once Reid confirmed he had no interest in rejoining, Kimberly presented Neil with three options on how to move forward as a group. Neil wrote on Instagram,

"I was then presented with three options: move forward as a duo, hold auditions or have her husband step in. I was fine with the first two, but soon understood Kimberly wanted to move forward with the third. We ultimately decided not to proceed."

Neil claimed he was open to two of the three options Kimberly put forward. That being said, it was the third option, bringing Johnny Costello into the fold, that he wasn't prepared to accept.

Neil Perry opens up about losing his place in The Band Perry:

A few weeks after the conversation about moving forward, Neil shared that Reid rejoined the band through conversations he was not part of. He was then given three days to decide whether he would continue. Neil wrote on Instagram,

"At the end of that three-day window, I asked for a conversation the following week and was told I was out of time."

Neil shared that he was approached again a month later but still could not move forward.

"At that point I understood that continuing to tour was no longer realistically an option for me and I would soon be forced out by the 2/3 partnership agreement," he shared.

He was clear, however, about what he hadn't agreed to.

"What I did not agree to was losing my financial interest and access to the resources and business I had spent my life helping build."

Shortly after the band signed a label deal, Reid announced his departure in October 2025, saying he was stepping away to become a talent manager, adding that

"I wish Kimberly and TBP the best as they move forward into the future."

Neil summed up what remained simply.

"What remained is my sister and her husband," he wrote.

Kimberly Perry reveals she fell in love with Johnny Costello the moment they met:

Kimberly and Johnny Costello have since returned to music together under The Band Perry name, releasing songs such as "Psychological" and "Kill It." Their story, however, started over brunch in Dallas, Texas, back in October of 2020. Kimberly opened up about meeting Johnny Costello in an interview with People, admitting that the encounter completely changed her thinking on love.

"I would've always told you that love at first sight was a very irresponsible thing, probably because I had never experienced it for myself," she shared.

That changed the moment Johnny Costello walked in. Kimberly added that

"But I'm just telling you that when we met, I immediately knew that I was in love with him."

She described what struck her about Johnny Costello that day.

"He's 6'5", blue eyes, blonde hair. But it was also his spirit that just felt really aligned with mine. He felt like a really secure person, and he felt like somebody who I was willing to shake up the pieces of my life with because he was trustworthy," she said.

As per a report shared by Borderzine, Johnny Costello picked up the guitar, harmonica and piano without any formal training and has more than forty original songs to his name. He once shared what he hopes audiences take away from his work.

"I want people to remember the balance of my music. I don't want to be seen as a great voice or just a great guitar player, rather I want my guitar and voice to strengthen what I'm trying to say in my music collectively," he shared.
