French actor Pierre Deny has passed away after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The actor who starred in the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris, passed away at the age of 69.In a statement issued on May 27, his daughters confirmed the news, stating that the actor died following a "sudden and severe" battle with the illness. The statement read:“It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS.”Before joining Emily in Paris, Deny had already built an extensive acting career in French theater and television.He started his career on stage in the 1980s before moving into film and television roles. Over the years, he gained particular recognition for his roles in popular French television dramas such as Une femme d'honneur, Julie Lescaut, Fabio Montale, and Cinq soeurs.He was also well-known for his portrayal of Renaud in the French soap opera Demain nous appartient, in which he reportedly appeared in over 500 episodes.⁠Who did Pierre Deny play in ‘Emily In Paris’In Seasons 3 and 4 of Emily in Paris, Deny played Louis de Leon. Louis de Leon was shown as the influential CEO of the fictional high-end fashion company JVMA. Additionally, the character was the father of Paul Forman's character Nicolas de Leon, who developed a romantic relationship with Ashley Park's character Mindy Chen.Louis was portrayed in the plot as a strict businessman with lofty goals for the company's future, as well as his son. In these painful moments, my thoughts are with his family and loved ones."Another friend of Deny, Raphael Benoliel called the actor a “great artist” and a “magnificent person.”In a heartfelt Instagram tribute on Tuesday, Pierre Deny's co-star, with whom he has worked for years, Luce Mouchel, said that their "short decade of shared like that should not have ended so quickly and so brutally." She wrote in French:"Pierre, seven years of filming together, taking the train together, having lunch together in the cafeteria, sometimes confiding in each other, occasionally inviting each other over and congratulating you on your hidden talent as a cook, introducing our daughters, going to applaud each other at the theater, habitually calling each other "doctor," and so much more. A little over a decade of shared life that shouldn't have ended so quickly and so brutally."She added:“I’m thinking of your daughters and their exceptional courage.
