On October 4, 2026, Reggie McFadden's family learned that he had died at 57. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his sister Bernice McFadden said the U.S. State Department contacted the family and told them he had died in Tanzania. He had lived there for about 18 years. Bernice McFadden, a best-selling author, added that the family still had no date and no cause.

Family members named alongside Bernice include his sister, Misty; sons Jaron and Myles; his mother, Vivian; and his brother, Kris.

Reggie McFadden's path into entertainment started far from East Africa. He was born on November 30, 1968, and raised in Brooklyn. According to a biography on the Comedy Store site, he treated stand-up as a route out of public housing. He gained national exposure in 1991 on HBO's Def Comedy Jam. According to Deadline, after he moved to Los Angeles, he took roles on the sitcoms Martin, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, Moesha, and Coach.

Most viewers still link his name to the last season of Fox's In Living Color. According to Deadline, he appeared in 23 episodes of that sketch series from 1993 to 1994, including Wheel of Dozens, All Up in the Family, and Dirty Dozens Tournament of Champions. After the show ended, he led the short-lived 1998 Fox comedy Getting Personal.

According to Forbes, his film work includes Jacob's Ladder (1990), Minor Adjustments (1995), and Little Nicky (2000). In 2001, he appeared on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm as Officer Burt, a neighbor of Larry David. Club work continued as well. According to Deadline, he recorded a special for Comedy Central and played regularly at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

By the time of his death, Reggie McFadden's public-facing work had shifted to Tanzania. As The Hollywood Reporter reported, Reggie McFadden's Facebook page listed him as owner of Olduvai Records, a firm that combined gold mining with entertainment production.
