Scott Hylands, the Canadian actor best remembered for his role as Detective Kevin "O.B." O'Brien in the popular police drama Night Heat, passed away at the age of 83. In a heartfelt Instagram tribute, his son, cinematographer Luke Hylands, revealed the renowned actor's passing on Wednesday, July 29, calling him his "forever hero and my best friend." Before transferring to the University of British Columbia's theatre arts department, he first studied zoology there. He graduated in 1964.After that, he relocated to New York City to further his acting career, and in 1965, he was cast in the lead role of Billy Liar, an Off-Broadway show. After that, Scott Hylands joined the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where he acted in plays including Death of a Salesman before moving on to television and movies.The 1969 thriller Daddy's Gone A-Hunting marked his on-screen debut. He gradually established a career as a character actor during the 1970s, starring in movies including Operation Snafu, Slipstream, Earthquake, Bittersweet Love, and The Boys in Company C. He also made cameos in television shows like Wonder Woman, Kung Fu, Police Story, The Waltons, and Hart to Hart.From Night Heat to FargoAfter returning to Canada in the 1980s to play Detective Kevin "O.B." O'Brien in Night Heat, Scott Hylands found his biggest hit on television.
