Why did Alexis Bledel leave Hollywood? Gilmore Girls star returns to red carpet for first film in years

Alexis Bledel has come back into limelight this week as she graced the Tribeca festival for the promotion of her new movie, Ponderosa, marking her first film role since 2019.

The Gilmore Girls alum showed up at the world premiere of her movie at the Village East Cinema in New York City, dressed in a knee-length satin gown that had a butter yellow-colored bodice with a sheer neckline accompanied by a black skirt.

The actress paired the ensemble with black plumps and black clutch bag.

However, what received the most attention was Alexis Bledel's return to the red carpet, a rare public sighting following her decision to focus on her private life.

Recalling, she stepped back from Hollywood effectively in May 2022, following her departure from the critically acclaimed series, The Handmaid's Tale.

In her statement through Variety, she mentioned her reasons behind leaving the show.

"After much thought, I felt I had to step away from The Handmaid's Tale at this time. I am forever grateful to [executive producer] Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support."

Three months after her departure, Alexis Bledel's then-husband, Vincent Kartheiser, filed for divorce, ending their eight-year marriage.

Per a previous report by Us Weekly, the former couple broke up as they experienced a degree of social isolation throughout their married life. At that time, one source offered additional details about the breakup.

"They didn't have a huge circle of friends but they both made up for it with very thriving and busy careers — almost to a fault. Vincent has always been a little bit of a lone wolf and he's going to benefit from time on his own."

The former couple shares one son, who was born in 2015. It was reported that as the two began raising their family, their differences became more and more apparent.

"Alexis is a little eccentric herself but compared to Vinnie, she's incredibly normal. For starters, Vinnie lives life by an unbreakable code of being humble and following a low-consumption lifestyle. That's something he's credited as helping him survive the crazy world of starting out as a child actor and that's part of what drew Alexis to him — he was different."

Meanwhile, at the movie's premiere, the Tuck Everlasting star was also joined by director Rob Rice and co-star Jack Dylan Grazer for official festival portraits.
