Why is Ariana Grande taking a hiatus? Rep says pop star is stepping back from public life after Eternal Sunshine tour

Ariana Grande will reportedly go on hiatus once she concludes her Eternal Sunshine tour on Sept. 1 in London, according to her representative.

In a statement to People, the pop star's representative said the singer is looking forward to finishing the tour on a positive note before stepping away from public appearances.

"Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour."

The official statement also noted that the decision comes after a period of sustained public attention and ongoing scrutiny surrounding the Grammy winner.

"She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much."

Meanwhile, an insider close to Ariana Grande told the entertainment outlet that her rigorous schedule during the tour has necessitated great physical stamina, and that she has managed to keep up her performance all through the tour.

"She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night."

Ariana Grande embarked on her Eternal Sunshine tour in early June 2026 in support of her 2024 album of the same name, which was marked by stage performances that involved choreography and vocal performance.

According to her representative, she is enjoying her experience and thankful for all the help she got from her fans during her tour.

This break is likely to provide the singer some time off from her busy schedule after months of touring. Her representative has not shared anything about the duration of this break and her upcoming professional plans.

Ariana Grande finds strength in herself in Petal

The news comes as the songstress launched her latest album, titled Petal, on July 31, with the title track of the same name, which music listeners deem a sharp commentary on fame and public scrutiny. Its lyrics contain blunt words:

"Tеll me who's to blame, is it the people or myself? Yep / But this time feels so very different / This is not a cry for help"

In another part, she sings:

"I'm practically drowning in my blessings / It's bye, this time for real / Tired of painting endless pictures of a life that isn't mine"

Ariana Grande's final scheduled Eternal Sunshine tour performance is set to take place in London on Sept. 1.

After the Wicked star's hiatus announcement, an Empire Street Productions spokesperson confirmed to the BBC that the musical would go ahead without Ariana Grande.

"Following this evening's announcement from Ariana Grande's team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George. We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best."

A replacement for Grande in the West End revival of the Pulitzer Prize–winning musical has not yet been named.
