Nara Smith opposed being labeled a "tradwife" during her July 29 appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, claiming that her love of cooking and caring for her family should not characterize her as a traditional homemaker when she is also a working mother and businesswoman. Addressing the way women are classified in restrictive categories online, the 24-year-old influencer said:“Why can’t we be a working mom that enjoys cooking?”Smith, who became well-known for making videos of herself cooking food and other household essentials from scratch, said she found it very strange to be affiliated with the tradwife movement and effectively become its "poster child." She stated that she was unfamiliar with the term and needed to look it up.Nara Smith expressed why she does not believe the image of being a homemaker matches her life, stating that she prioritizes working as a mother. She revealed:“I don’t prioritize being a homemaker, I’m a working mom.”The influencer and model stated that she travels regularly for work and has been modeling since she was fourteen. While cooking has become an distinctive characteristic of her online content, she emphasizes that it is something she likes rather than a position she feels compelled to fulfill:“I’d be like, ‘What is happening? Did they not know that I worked as a model. I’ve been working since I’ve been 14.’ All these things, but I think I am very very compassionate.”Nara Smith continued:“I’m out in L.A., I travel a lot. Sure, do I love cooking because it’s my passion and because I kind of have to due it given my autoimmune [disease]? Absolutely. But that’s a passion of mine. It’s a hobby. It’s not something that I need to be doing.”She also discussed the splitting of duties between herself and her husband, Lucky Blue Smith. Nara Smith handles cooking while Lucky does other household duties. She quipped:“My husband burns everything, apart from a good steak, so he’ll do that. But I look cooking, so I’m doing it. Household and cleaning? He does the dishes. I don’t touch the dishes. There’s no way you’re going to see me washing and scrubbing the dishes. Also, he cleans our house. He’s very specific with how things need to be cleaned, so he does it.”Smith also rejected another assumption usually associated with the term "tradwife," which is that the husband should be the primary provider for the family:“Do I support the husband’s role as the primary breadwinner? No. We both work. That doesn’t make any sense. I provide for our family.”The model and influncer then opened up about how the label originally hurt her. She remembered crying to Lucky after watching people continuously refer to her as a tradwife despite her profession. She recounted:“I understand where that can come from, but then the more that narrative started swelling, I was like, ‘Well, let me say something.'”Nara Smith explained that she understood how people might initially develop that perception based on her content, but as her narrative progressed, she chose to address it publicly.Nara Smith recalls recording a morning routine video in which her voiceover emphasized being a working mother, travelling, and other aspects of her life to challenge the stereotype:“So, I remember posting this video of this morning routine and my voiceover was me being a working mom and traveling and kind of debunking all of that, but then a lot of the comments were still that narrative.”She added:“I realized that a lot of the people that are very, very stuck in this narrative do not want to be corrected.”Smith claims that this idea has also had an impact on her work life. She recounted an incident in which her team was attempting to collaborate with someone who refused to do so because of his perception of her internet presence. According to the model and influencer, the person argued that no matter what they said or showed him, including Forbes stories on her business, she remained "a trad wife" to him and he refused to work with her.She said the incident taught her that she could spend all day trying to disprove the narrative without changing people's beliefs. While she emphasized that this did not apply to everyone, she felt that some people simply "don't wanna be corrected."Nara Smith then widened the debate beyond her own experience, expressing her concern that women had to be placed in "very specific, very narrow boxes" in order for people to understand them.Smith questioned why multiple facets of a woman's life are sometimes viewed as contradictory, suggesting that being a working mother may coexist with loving cooking, spending time at home, and caring for her children, as well as traveling to Los Angeles for work meetings.Nara Smith opens up about daughter Whimsy's cancer diagnosis and remissionDuring the conversation, Nara Smith also discussed her two-year-old daughter Whimsy Lou's cancer diagnosis and remission, calling the months of therapy "really, really hard." She told the Call Her Daddy host that she and Lucky supported one another throughout the process, while initially keeping the diagnosis secret to maintain their daughter's privacy.Smith said she eventually found consolation in talking to other parents and nurses at the hospital and reading about similar experiences online. Shortly after Whimsy's birthday, she finished her final treatment and went into remission. She revealed:“We wanted to wait until she was done with treatment and knowing what the outcome of her situation would be before sharing it and even finding the words to share it.
