Actor Jack Cusack has opened up about taking a break from acting while talking about his new graphic novel, Momo.
During a rare public appearance at the San-Diego Comic Con on Friday, the 60-year-old actor revealed why he took a break from acting in an interview with Variety.
John Cusack is currently working on releasing his debut graphic novel titled Momo on September 29. He attended Comic Con to promote the graphic novel.
Cusack mentioned that one of the main reasons for taking a break from acting was an increase in the involvement of film studios. In the interview with Variety, he said,
"This graphic novel was just how I had written it. And I said, 'I like this story,'" he said. "Nothing that I wrote or that Ignacio Noé drew was altered by anyone. Thus, it is actually a piece of work that was completed by just two individuals. It was just me and Ignacio's story, and that doesn't happen today."
He continued by saying,
“When you ask somebody to put like $20 to $30 million into a bank account [for a film budget], they want to have an opinion, and they’re afraid and all that stuff,” he added.
John's graphic novel Momo will be published by Mad Cave Studios. It is a science fiction buddy heist and road trip tale set in 1972.
The High Fidelity actor added that he was grateful "no committee" was in charge of his work. He emphasized that he was able to create graphic novels with the freedom he desired.
Cusack also revealed that he had already started writing on a second graphic novel alongside Noé.
Explaining why he decided to write graphic novels, Cusack told Forbes,
"Back when I was starting to make movies, you would find people who had aspirations to do something totally unique, not just installments in a franchise or something that fit their business strategy."
He also revealed, in the same interview with Forbes,
“I wanted to do something like movies from a different era, and no matter what happens, if someone reads it and likes it, I count that as a success.”
