After a six-month break, General Hospital actress Kirsten Storms has officially returned to the long-running daytime drama. She reprised her role as Maxie Jones in the February 12 episode following a serious health scare involving a brain aneurysm.

The 41-year-old actress made her emotional return after revealing back in July that she would be taking a brief leave of absence from General Hospital and would be relocating from Los Angeles to Nashville with her daughter Harper Rose, whom she shares with her ex-husband Brandon Barash.

Kirsten Storms initially described the move as a positive life transition at the time. Months later, though, she disclosed that her health was the true cause of her break.

Storms revealed on Instagram in October that during a follow-up scan, medical professionals had found an aneurysm on the right side of her brain. Her symptoms, which the physicians thought might be related to her brain, prompted the initial examination.

Storms acknowledged that she was taken aback when the physicians told her about the aneurysm. Imaging related to her prior brain surgery revealed the aneurysm. A big noncancerous cyst that had split in two and was giving her a lot of pain was removed during a craniotomy in 2021.

Kirsten Storms' current health status

Following a consulation with a new neurosurgeon in St. Louis, Kirsten Storms provided comforting news in a December update. She clarified that her treatment falls into what medical professionals refer to as the "gray zone."

She added that she was not in any immediate danger through her December post:

“So as I sit in this ‘gray zone’, pondering my plan, I want you guys to know that I really do appreciate the messages and stories offered of your own experiences.”

She continued with jokes:

“I needed those….and I had no idea (weird how that works, right?). Super easy to be silly and have fun on these platforms, but getting deep about online rumors and my feelings about them? Hah….i’d rather switch to decaf coffee. (My psychologist would tell me that’s a clear example of “avoidance”.)”

She went on to add:

"Basically, I can keep monitoring it — or have the coiling done, BUT he told me I wasn't in immediate/'OMG! it's going to burst tomorrow!' kind of danger. Obvi, great news. Trying to see if I'm comfortable with the 'wait and see if it gets worse' plan."

And concluded with "and maaaaybe you will be seeing me back in Port Charles soon."

Which left the fans excited for her return. Kirsten Storms expressed gratitude to the love and support that she received from the fans.

Kirsten Storms comeback on General Hospital and her outlook on life

Kirsten Storms' character in General Hospital, Maxie Jones was put in a coma storyline while she was away. In the episode that aired on 12 February, As her family gets ready to leave her hospital room Maxie awakens and then surprises her son by standing at the doorway saying:

“James Malcolm West, you are not going skating without a helmet.”

The moment fans were awaiting all along had finally arrived when she suprised her family.

Storms has always been open about how the diagnosis made her reassess her whole life. She said that stress could lead to aneurysms and brain issues, and moving to Nashville was important for her mental and physical well-being:

“Emotional support, when going through times in life that cause worry, is crucial. Aneurysms (obviously) can be caused by stress. Brain cysts? I believe that is possible too…. and since the January scan showed a new, but very small, squatter (aka cyst) on my brain stem — it was clear I needed to change some things in my life asap.”

While she stressed that her daughter was the biggest inspiration behind her decision to move, Storms also made it clear that her own well-being and happiness were important to her too:

“For my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me. The biggest reason for the move was Harper, but a lot of it was for my physical and mental health. And my overall happiness.”

Kirsten Storms is now officially back in Port Charles. She taking care of her aneurysm with medical attention, not scheduled for surgery at the moment and is not in any immediate danger.

Her return to the show marks the start of a new chapter, both on and off the screen.
