Why are Nicola Peltz Beckham’s parents being sued? Dog attack lawsuit against Brooklyn Beckham’s in-laws explored

The Bates Motel actress, Nicola Peltz, and her husband, Brooklyn Beckham, have recently drawn attention online after Brooklyn's in-laws and Nicola's billionaire parents, Nelson and Claudia Peltz, were reportedly sued by a woman named Joy Ransom, who is a house help at the Peltzes' Palm Beach residence in Florida, after their family dog, Houdini, a pit bull, attacked and injured her, according to TMZ.

According to People, this is the second time someone has sued Nicola Peltz's parents for a similar reason. In 2023, another house help was attacked by the same dog, Houdini, after which a lawsuit was filed against the Peltz family in 2024. However, while Joy Ransom was attacked by the Peltz family dog in December 2025, she filed the lawsuit against the family on July 10, 2026.

Interestingly, as cited by People, when Houdini attacked Joy Ransom, the Back Roads actress, Nicola Peltz, was there at the house during the reported dog attack, as stated by Ransom.

According to People, in court documents filed against Nicola Peltz's parents, Nelson and Claudia, Joy Ransom has stated that their pet dog, Houdini, has a tendency to attack or lunge at people. She also mentioned in the lawsuit that Houdini did not receive behavior or K-9 training.

Joy Ransom also claimed in the court documents that there was no one to keep Houdini in control or have a leash on the dog. Ransom's lawsuit further stated that Nicola Peltz's parents:

"Failed to report Houdini’s dangerous propensities to the appropriate animal control authority and failed to obtain a certificate of registration for Houdini."

After Ransom was attacked by Houdini, she sued the Peltz family for more than $50k. Her lawsuit claimed:

"Bodily injury and resulting physical and mental pain and suffering, disability, physical impairment, disfigurement, mental anguish, inconvenience, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, loss of earnings and impairment of earning capacity and/or permanent aggravation of a pre-existing condition, and further incurred hospital bills, medical bills, and/or other bills as a result of said injuries."

Joy Ransom's attorney says Nicola Peltz's parents should have taken stronger precautions after the first attack by their dog

According to TMZ, Joy Ransom's lawyer, Michael Steigner, said that Nicola's parents, Nelson and Claudia Peltz, lacked foresight, as they should have taken the first case of their dog Houdini attacking people more seriously. Steigner said:

"Everyone can understand a tragic first incident. A second attack raises a far more serious question: what changed after the first one?"

Steigner further added:

"When a dog has already bitten someone, owners are on notice that they have a responsibility to take every reasonable precaution to prevent it from happening again."
