Kanye West has been surrounded by controversies in the past few years for antisemitism. Earlier this year, the rapper issued an apology for his antisemitic actions. Despite the apology, people seem upset with Ye, which resulted in the cancellation of his Wireless Festival and concerts in other European countries.

On the contrary, the Netherlands did not cancel Kanye West’s upcoming shows in Arnhem. His two performances are scheduled for June 6 and June 8. Dutch officials allowed his shows in the country, even though there was pushback and protests. As per Reuters, Deputy PM Bart van den Brink commented on Kanye West’s ban. He said that solid grounds are needed to ban him from the country.

“Solid grounds are needed to bar people from entering [the country]. We have not found those in the analyses that were conducted,”

He added that the past statements made by Kanye West can’t he used to ban him now.

“His past statements are not, at this moment, a reason to deny him entry.”

Earlier this month in the Netherlands, most members of the House of Representatives suggested banning West from entering the country, as reported by NOS.

Kanye West issued his apology as an ad in The WSJ

On January 26, Ye took out an ad in The Wall Street Journal to issue an apology. In his lengthy letter, Kanye appeared to attribute his past antisemitic behaviour to his mental disorder and a car accident. In the letter, he said:

“Twenty-five years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain. At the time, the focus was on the visible damagethe fracture, the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma. The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed.”

He added that a comprehensive analysis and neurological examination were not done for him. Kanye West revealed that he was diagnosed with type-1 bipolar disorder. Ye said:

“Comprehensive scans were not done, neurological exams were limited, and the possibility of a frontal-lobe injury was never raised. It wasn't properly diagnosed until 2023. That medical oversight caused serious damage to my mental health and led to my bipolar type-1 diagnosis”

Furthermore, Ye said:

“Bipolar disorder comes with its own defense system. Denial. When you're manic, you don't think you're sick. You think everyone else is overreacting. You feel like you're seeing the world more clearly than ever”

Ye’s upcoming shows will be held at Gelre Dome, Arnhem.
