Janelle Brown, the Sister Wives star, is giving her North Carolina living room a fresh look, and her boyfriend Pete is getting a great deal of credit for it. She took to Instagram on Thursday, Oct. 15, to reveal that her main living area had finally gotten curtains after going seven months without them. The reality television personality was candid in her caption about the wait and used the post to praise Pete for his help around the house.

Janelle addressed the wait in her caption.

“7 months of bare windows in the main living area. In fairness, there was a whole lot else going on,” she wrote.

She also took the opportunity to thank Pete.

“A big thanks to Pete, who willingly works through my honey-do list. It’s also so much more interesting to work on projects with someone,” she added.

The post included several shots of her newly hung curtains in the living room, hung on either side of the fireplace and across the windows facing her porch. Her North Carolina home sits on a 156-acre plot of land. Janelle Brown had bought the property with her daughter, Madison Brush, and Madison’s husband, Caleb Brush.

Janelle Brown first told her Instagram followers about the big purchase back in December 2024. She then revealed in March of this year that she had finally been able to move in. As per a report shared by People, the publication got a look at the emotional moment she received the keys to her new home during a preview for season twenty-one of Sister Wives, which premiered Oct. 4.

“So after all these months, this is the day,” she said in the scene.
“I went and signed the paperwork, and I even have the key. So yeah, I’m going to go take a look around. It’s so interesting because I knew today was coming, and I’m really excited, but I’m almost kind of … I don’t want to say detached, but I’m just sort of taking it all in. And this happens for me sometimes when it’s really big. Just how I’m wired,” she continued.

Along with her new home, Janelle Brown also shared another major personal update earlier this year, when she revealed she was in a relationship with Pete. The news came four years after she announced her split from husband Kody Brown. She broke the news in August and has since been sharing more about their relationship with her followers.

Janelle Brown reflects on her thirty-year marriage to Kody Brown and what she feels went wrong:

On the Sunday, Oct. 11, episode of Sister Wives, Janelle Brown got candid about where things fell apart with Kody Brown.

“I don’t think Kody and I ever really had a solid identity as a couple. He and I were always very much thinking about the family. We thought about the whole,” she shared.

She went further, admitting that their one-on-one relationship was something she never gave enough attention to.

“I didn’t spend enough time thinking about my relationship with him one-on-one. It was just sort of a given. It was just going to happen. It was just going to be there,” she continued.
“I realize now that maybe we should have probably taken some time for that. But ultimately at the end, I just sort of became apathetic. Like, I just didn’t care,” she added.

Janelle became Kody’s second wife in a spiritual ceremony in 1993. Meri Brown had legally married him three years prior, in 1990. Christine followed in 1994, and Robyn joined the family in 2010. Kody would later dissolve his marriage to Meri, opting to make his union with Robyn a legal one in 2014, and adopted her three children in the process.

Janelle and Kody share six children together, including sons Logan, Hunter, Gabriel and the late Garrison, as well as daughters Maddie and Savanah. Garrison passed away in March 2024. He was twenty-five years old.

Janelle Brown pinpoints what pushed her to walk away from Kody:

Janelle and Kody called it quits in December 2022, just shy of their thirty-year anniversary, which would have fallen in January 2023. For context, Christine had left Kody in November 2021, and Meri announced her own split from him in January 2023. When asked about what ultimately ended things, Janelle pointed to how Kody treated their children.

“I think the biggest thing for me started when he really started to be hard on my children,” she shared.
“Wanting them to conform to his opinion, wanting them to act a certain way,” she added.

Janelle Brown also recalled a specific moment during the coronavirus pandemic that served as a turning point. Kody had begun enforcing strict rules for his children as a condition for visiting their mothers’ homes. That, she said, is when things became undeniably clear.

“That’s when all of a sudden I’m like, ‘OK, I don’t know if I can do this anymore,’” Janelle confessed.
“It was a burden to stay married,” she added.
