Joe Rogan has unloaded on comedians criticizing jokes made at Kevin Hart's roast.
On the May 29 episode of his podcast, Rogan sat down with comedian-actor Harland Williams. During the conversation, the UFC broadcaster brought up the controversy surrounding Tony Hinchcliffe's jokes during The Roast of Kevin Hart.
For the unversed, on Kevin Hart's Netflix roast, Hinchcliffe made a joke referencing George Floyd while roasting Hart. He also joked about "lynching" Hart from a bonsai tree. His jokes drew a huge backlash on the internet. Notably, fellow comedian Chelsea Handler also slammed Tony Hinchcliffe and Shane Gillis for making allegedly incendiary jokes. Handler labeled the two comedians "racist" during her recent appearance on Deon Cole's podcast.
On the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan argued that many people are not aware of what roast comedy is. The podcaster added that he could understand criticism from those unfamiliar with that style of humor. However, he unloaded on comedians taking shots at fellow artists.
"Comedians that are getting upset about these roast jokes, f**k all the way off. Just f**k all the way off. You traitor. You know what this is. You know exactly what this is. You're a f**king traitor. You're just using this moment to try to boost yourself up to try to like knock down what's happening in these."
Joe Rogan seemingly aimed at Handler's "racist" remark about Hinchcliffe and said:
"You could disagree with the content. You could say, 'I think they went too far with this. I don't think.' But this f**king pretending that these people are actual racists and Nazis just because they're telling these jokes that are in a roast. Like, f**k all the way off."
Harland Williams also weighed in, saying that people should not “suit up” to play hockey if they do not want to play the game.
Joe Rogan reacts to Kevin Hart's response to criticism of his roast
While lambasting comedians who took offense at roast jokes, Joe Rogan praised Kevin Hart for standing up for his fellow artists.
"You know who didn't have a problem with it? Kevin f**king Hart... Kevin f**king Hart has defended every single person that said horrible sh*t about him, about him being lynched from a bonsai tree and all the craziest sh*t that they said," Joe Rogan commented.
Kevin Hart addressed the backlash surrounding his Netflix roast during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club podcast. The Jumanji star was asked to share his take on Tony Hinchcliffe's George Floyd joke. The comedian said while the joke wasn't "tasteful joke to our culture," he defended Hinchcliffe's performance.
"If you're watching the roast, you get why they're doing it. You get why the racial humor is on the table… I wasn't shocked. Like, that's what they do. Go look at the Tom Brady one," Hart said.
Kevin Hart went on to say that Hinchcliffe arguably had the best set on the show.
