President Trump blasted an NBC reporter after she pressed the POTUS on his support for Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign ad attacking Democratic opponent Amy Acton. This week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Ramaswamy's campaign released an ad featuring his opponent's estranged mother, Donna Arthur. As reported by the BBC, Acton and her brother were removed from Arthur's custody after her second husband was charged with sexually abusing Acton during childhood.

In a new Ramaswamy campaign ad, Arthur, without mentioning any specific incident, said Amy Acton "has a serious problem" and called her a "liar." She also urged Ohioans not to elect her as their governor. The controversial ad sparked huge controversy and drew backlash from both Democrats and Republicans. Meanwhile, President Trump came out in support of Vivek Ramaswamy and pushed back against criticism of the ad in an October 22 Truth Social post.

On October 23, during a press interaction at the White House, the POTUS addressed questions about the ad. According to a White House press gaggle video, NBC White House correspondent Monica Alba mentioned that the Republicans who were with Trump in Iowa the previous night also opposed the ad, to which the president said, "they don't know the fact." He insisted that the ad showed a mother opposing her own daughter.

The reporter stressed the sexual abuse allegations and asked if they didn't matter to the president. While Trump was answering, Alba again interjected and asked whether these allegations "make no difference." The POTUS, in response, asked her to be "quiet" and questioned her affiliation. When the reporter revealed she was from NBC, Trump replied, "One of the worst networks." Monica Alba went on to press the president on the sexual abuse allegations. Trump fumed at her and said:

"Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?"

The president argued that had his own mother said "bad things" about him, Democrats would have put the ad on air. He then labeled Amy Acton's mother a "smart woman."

"This is a person, a mother, a smart woman. She said her daughter is a disaster, her daughter is a liar, and she felt that she had an obligation. And she also said her daughter lied about her opponent. If I had that ad, I should be so lucky to have an ad like that. Why wouldn't you listen to a mother that says that? Why? Miss NBC, why wouldn't you listen?" he added.

Trump says the ad has "nothing to do" with Amy Acton's stepfather

When the president questioned the NBC reporter about why she would not listen to a mother, the journalist replied that Amy Acton's mother stayed with her second husband even after he was charged. The POTUS responded:

"I don't know anything about stepfather from many, many years ago. I know that recently a mother got on television and said that her daughter should not be governor of Ohio... This has nothing to do with a stepfather or anything else. This has to do with the fact that a woman got out, the mother of a person running for governor of one of the greatest states where I set records and said that 'she's a liar'... To me that's something, that's very much fair game."

Earlier, during the media interaction, other reporters also questioned the president on his support for Vivek Ramaswamy's ad. Insisting on Donna Arthur's message, Trump said that the press is "embarrassing" itself and accused the media of making a "horrible situation" better for a Democrat.

Previously, in his Thursday Truth Social post, the POTUS said that had such an ad run against him, Democrats would have been "totally supportive." He also blasted incumbent Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for criticizing Ramaswamy.
