The Batman villain spin-off movie set in the DCU, Clayface, releases this coming Friday. One of the shocking developments a few months ago was the body horror movie being taken off the IMAX release schedule. However, even if the movie is not releasing on IMAX, you can still catch the movie in other formats, including other premium large-screen ones. The upcoming DCU movie is sitting out the IMAX release because Street Fighter is currently occupying the giant screen. However, we may get a small IMAX re-release for Clayface if the public response is overwhelmingly positive, something that happened back in August for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.Clayface release formats: Here are the different screens in which the DCU horror is releasing:World Premiere Of Warner Bros. Here are all the formats in which Clayface releases on Friday:Standard ScreensTom Rhys Harries in the movie | Image Via: YouTube/DCThe standard format will probably be the default format in which most viewers will watch Clayface. The standard format is still the best format for people who don't like vibrating seats or sensory overload. Some standard-format screens might have different aspect ratios, altering your viewing experience slightly. But the DCU movie was reportedly shot for a CinemaScope ratio of 2.35:1. Therefore, the standard version of the movie should be relatively consistent across different theaters.4DX View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe DCU project is indeed releasing on 4DX, one of the most intense theatrical formats. You may not like this format as 4DX promises a viewing experience that's closer to a theme park ride than a standard screening. Theater seats rumble during action scenes and wind, water, fog, and scent effects fire off inside the auditorium during scenes of turbulent weather. For a body horror movie, seat movements could give you a feel of what Matt Hagen is experiencing as his body loses its shape. Water effects would likely be sprayed across the face and neck to replicate the sensation of wet clay on your own skin.D-BOXD-BOX poster | Image Via: Instagram/@dboxtechLike 4DX, D-Box relies on motion-coded recliner seats that move alongside what happens on screen. But there is one noticeable difference from 4DX: D-Box doesn't have water, scent, and wind effects inside the auditorium. D-Box, a restrained format, offers moving seats without the sensory overload of the 4DX format. For a psychological body horror like the DCU movie, D-Box could make you feel the dread of Matt Hagen's body transformations without the sensory experiences that 4DX offers. This would make D-Box a subtler viewing format for the body horror movie.HDR by BarcoPoster for the HDR by Barco release | Image Via: Instagram/@barco.cinemaHDR by Barco is the newest screen format on this list. The light-steering laser projection promises to project high-contrast images that are approximately six times brighter than those produced by traditional projection. This would mean that you could observe details even in the movie's darkest shots. A crisp projection is valuable for a movie like this, which boasts shadow-heavy cinematography.ScreenX View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe ScreenX format projects a movie on the main screen in the center and on both side walls of the auditorium. This projection would give you a 270-degree panoramic view during some scenes. Clayface promises to offer one of the most unique and memorable portrayals of Gotham. A panoramic screen format can offer a better view of all the DC Easter eggs in the background."Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge."Clayface releases in theaters on October 23, 2026.
