Mehdi Hasan responded after President Donald Trump called Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon a “very low IQ person” during campaign remarks ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

In a post on X on October 30, 2026, Hasan wrote,

“Not racist at all from the president of the United States.”

He also criticised the media's coverage of an advertisement involving a Michigan Muslim Senate candidate, arguing that the candidate had nothing to do with it.

US President Trump calls Angie Nixon a "very low IQ person" during Florida campaign remarks

The US President made the remarks while addressing supporters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. In the footage shared on X, he referred to Nixon as a “very low IQ person” and criticised her speaking ability. He said,

“I watched her the other day speak and she can't speak.”

He also described her as a communist candidate for the Senate and questioned why she was running.

During the same remarks, the US President made a reference to former President Richard Nixon after discussing Angie Nixon. He asked whether she was related to the former president, adding that he wanted to make clear there was “no relationship.” The comments were part of his remarks encouraging support for Republican candidates in Florida.

President Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal dismissed over Epstein report

The BBC reported on October 31, 2026, that a US judge had dismissed the US President's $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal, its parent company Dow Jones and its owner Rupert Murdoch.

The case concerned the newspaper's reporting about an alleged letter bearing Trump's name that was included in a birthday book for Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. Trump denied writing or signing the letter and accused the newspaper of defaming him.

US District Judge Darrin Gayles dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice, meaning Trump cannot file the same case again. The BBC reported that the judge found the US President's legal team had failed to establish that the defendants published defamatory statements with actual malice, a requirement in cases involving public figures.

The lawsuit had previously been dismissed before Trump's legal team refiled it seeking $10 billion in damages, reduced from the original $20 billion claim. The BBC reported that the dispute arose after the newspaper published its account of the alleged letter in a birthday book for Epstein.
