Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison is reportedly thinking about inviting Elon Musk to a group of wealthy investors because the company is looking for new funding. David thinks that Musk's investment would help his company to secure and manage its huge $110 billion deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Semafor reported that Musk is a longtime friend of David's father Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle. David's father has a history of investing huge amounts of money. For example, Larry invested $1 billion into Musk's 2022 deal that helped him take X (earlier called Twitter) private. Larry also invested in Tesla in 2018 and spent several years working as a member of the company's board of directors.

David Ellison is considering Elon Musk as a potential investor

According to Semafor, Paramount is considering Elon Musk as a possible investor for their huge $110 billion deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. The company's CEO David Ellison has reportedly spoken about inviting Musk to a circle of wealthy investors who could supply equity funding. David's father had already pledged more than $40 billion in equity support for Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros.

The exact size of Musk's possible investment has not been determined so far. Semafor reported that his involvement could expand Paramount's pool of investors, which in turn would help to reduce the company's financial pressure. Meanwhile, Musk's potential stake in CBS and CNN could invite political attention.

Why did David Ellison consider Elon Musk as a potential investor?

First of all, Paramount was going through financial difficulties and David thought that inviting Musk would help to reduce the pressure that his company was going through. Under the merger deal, Paramount has to give Warner Bros. shareholders about $7 million daily starting from October 1. However, the company has planned to finish the merger in the third quarter.

Secondly, David's father Larry Ellison is very close to Elon Musk. In fact, Larry helped Musk to crack his life's most significant deals, and so David thought that Musk might do a favour to his father's empire in return.

In addition, Forbes Real Time Billionaires List reported that currently Elon Musk has a net worth of approximately $950.4 billion to $957.7 billion. Therefore, Musk's investment might help Paramount to overcome the financial challenge it is now going through.

Variety mentioned that Paramount's merger with Warner Bros. is moving toward the final stage after the company resolved its antitrust dispute with 12 state attorneys general through a settlement. The judge has set a hearing on September 24, 2026, to review the proposed consent decree. If the court approves the agreement, the Paramount-Warner Bros. deal is expected to close in about 2 weeks.

The company has also secured $24 billion in commitments from the sovereign wealth funds of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. According to Paramount, these 3 Middle Eastern funds would hold 38.5% of the deal. Last week, the FCC approved Paramount's request to permit foreign entities to own up to 49.5% of its equity if the Warner Bros. merger is completed.
