Skydance will now be the official name of the most talked-about merger, the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. In a recent post, CEO David Ellison has given a detailed explanation regarding the choice of the name after the merger. With the closing date of the deal, which is October 6, getting closer, there has been an exponential rise in anticipation regarding this whole situation. He reveals that the focus of the combination of the two studios has not been to rewrite history. However, the main focus has been on “combining them” so that it can become a “more powerful engine”. He notes in the post that Skydance will be a “creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling”. While explaining the reason behind the choice of the name for the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, Ellison adds in the post that there were several factors that were put into consideration while the name was being chosen. The first priority was to “preserve” the unique aspects of both the studios, especially the element that made each of these studios have a distinct uniqueness. Hence, the name was chosen as it would give the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger an “identity of its own” along with being able to “remain in the spotlight”. Ellison further elaborates on the “big goals” they have. There will be a combination of “passion, imagination, and a willingness to take smart risks”. According to Ellison, this will be able to “honor” the special aspects of both Paramount and Warner Bros. The new name is also the original film production company’s name. Besides sharing the details regarding the name of the merger, Ellison has also shared a video where there are some snippets of the projects that are going to be under the new studio. At the end of the video, a Skydance logo appears with several other logos of studios surrounding it, depicting the new path that the merger has taken. Some of the logos in the video are HBO Max, DC Comics, CNN, Paramount+, etc. Besides Ellison, Ynon Kreiz, the former chief of Mattel, has also joined in. Ynon Kreiz will take the helm as the co-CEO. Kreiz is reportedly set to join on October 5.
