The Immortal Man picks the story six years after it ended with the hit BBC crime drama's sixth and final season. The world outside is now different as another war is brewing and is about to reach its peak. The Nazis have risen to power and the only country in the West still putting up a fight against the fascists is England. However, Birmingham is not like how it was when Tommy Shelby left Garrison Lane and Small Heath as his eldest son Duke Shelby (played by Barry Keoghan) now runs the show, the Peaky Blinders - not to mention, even more reckless than his father. On the other hand, as seen at the start of The Immortal Man, Tommy has retracted from all the noise and passes his days writing a book (about his life) and living with his trusted pal Johnny Dogs. However, his past comes back to him in a different form and persuades him to return to Small Heath, Birmingham to hold the reins of his kingdom once again, which eventually draws him to his dramatic fate.Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers from the movie The Immortal Man. Viewer's discretion is advised.A war is brewing as The Immortal Man makes a return to Small Heath View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThomas Shelby has been fighting a war inside of him for a very long time. The loss of Aunt Polly, his daughter, his two brothers and his wife has left him in a state of despair and misery that only the stone-hearted can survive. But surprisingly, our antihero still has a softness inside of him and whatever human is left outside of his demons still urges him to go on. Having sinned enough, Tommy is now on a path of redemption as he writes his days away while Birmingham is being carpet bombed every night by Hitler and his troops - two wars raging at a time as The Immortal Man unravels.Small Heath is now indirectly under the control of a Nazi snake named Beckett (played by Tim Roth) who is deep down in the game of infusing millions of pounds of counterfeit currency into England. And he is using Duke Shelby (the young gang leader with less experience and uncontrolled energy) as a medium for the same. The opening sequence of The Immortal Man reveals counterfeit currency being loaded at Sachsenhausen concentration camp to be sent to London and other parts of England - a Nazi attempt to crash the entire British economy. However, Duke Shelby happens to be at the right place and at the right time and takes up the deal with Beckett. On the other hand, Duke Shelby is also out with the new Peaky Blinders in the war-inflicted streets of Birmingham scavenging on munitions from a BSA factory. It seems like he has a similar influence in the region as his dad (Tommy Shelby back in the day) and even the police are scared of him.The only person from the OG Shelbys to stand in his way is Tommy's sister Ada who is now an MP in Small Heath, Birmingham. Ada even goes down to Tommy's den to warn him about his son telling him that Duke needs to be saved from the wrong path he is walking on. But the gypsy king never wanted anything to do with his son directly (with a pre-war love interest named Zelda) and left everything for him to rule."The Immortal Man" reveals a secret about Arthur to KauloA new name is all over the place as Rebecca Ferguson's enigmatic new Romani fortune teller Kaulo makes an appearance at Tommy Shelby's house out of the blue. It is eventually revealed that Kaulo is the twin sister of Zelda (Tommy's old fling and Duke's mother) and she uses her gypsy charm to persuade Tommy to return to Birmingham.Tommy spends his time with his silence growing around him and talks to the graves of his close ones he has lost over the years. He sees things and lives with an undefined void all around him and Kaulo hits him at the right spot and at the right time with her weird witchcraft.Over dinner, Tommy and Kaulo get intimate with each other and after making love, the gypsy gangster spills a secret about Arthur's death. It is learnt that his big brother took his own life in a dramatic turn of events and Tommy was present at the scene- but maybe that is not the whole truth! But The Immortal Man is now convinced to return to Birmingham and take matters into his own hands.Ada meets her fate quite early in The Immortal Man View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAs tensions rise in Small Heath, Ada continues to resist Duke Shelby's anarchy and Beckett being his usual cunning self, plans to remove her from the picture. He assigns Duke the job as Beckett brainwashes him and tries to play the “If you were my son, I would cherish you,” card. But apparently, the younger Shelby does not have the nerve to carry out the act and gives up at the last moment, as seen in The Immortal Man. To the shock of the viewers, Beckett arrives at the scene and shoots a bullet right through Ada's head while she is on her way to Montague Street with her son.As Tommy rides his way back to Birmingham with Johnny Dogs, he is haunted by Ada's ghost right on the middle of the road and makes the car stop. His vision sends a chill down his entire body as he realises that Ada has been killed. The Gypsy King returns to the Garrison Pub with quite the auraThe Immortal Man rushes through the lanes of Small Heath after getting to know that Ada has been murdered in broad daylight. He throws the doors of Garrison open and the picture inside is quite different now than it was during the times of the three Shelby brothers.Tommy remains calm and deals with an eccentric soldier drinking his way around saying:"Who the f*ck is Tommy Shelby?"It seems his influence in and around Garrison Lane is still the same and quite deadly! Tommy finally faces off with his long-lost son Duke and pins him down in the mud trying to squeeze the truth about Ada's death. The name of Beckett and his evil plot about England eventually comes to light and Tommy becomes hell-bent on stopping him.A bigger confession comes to light as the showdown brewsTommy Shelby visits the mortuary where his dead sister is being kept and confesses to killing Arthur Shelby in a fit of rage and alcohol. He admits to having grown tired of his brother's madness and wanted him dead for the greater good. So, what was initially painted as a suicide turns out to be murder and now Tommy chooses his path of redemption by eliminating a greater evil. Beckett, as expected, arrives at the scene, armed.Shots are fired between the gypsy leader and the Nazi agent and both have a narrow escape. But a bigger fight brews as Tommy Shelby, with the help of Kaulo, gets Duke on his side in the fight against the fascists.Duke appears to be pledging his loyalty to the Germans and helping to infuse counterfeit money into the country. But the broken leader of the gypsies still has his hold in and around the docks of Liverpool. With Johnny Dogs, Curly and Charlie Tommy arms himself up for the showdown. Union convenor of the docks, Hayden Stagg also joins him to help for the sake of old times when Arthur Shelby spared his life. As instructed by The Immortal Man, three boats full of explosives head towards the Liverpool docks through an abandoned water tunnel with Stagg onboard. As we see, Duke reveals The Immortal Man's plans of attacking the warehouse where Beckett would be stationed but it's not until later that we learn that he was playing a typical "double agent" all the time. Beckett and his Nazi followers would be ready to ambush the boats carrying Tommy Shelby and his old gang but the vessels would actually be empty, ready to blow up.With the help of Kaulo's cousins, Tommy breaks open the gate to a secret tunnel that directly leads to the warehouse mentioned above and take Beckett by surprise as the latter sits with Duke sipping whiskey and thinking he has tricked the gypsy leader.Luckily, everything goes as planned and Stagg is successful in reaching the boats exactly at midnight to the docks, which then blow up the entrance to the warehouse, killing Beckett's Nazi troops. On the other hand, Tommy Shelby faces a difficult situation as a portion of the tunnel's roof collapses due to German bombing. However, "The Immortal Man" as he is already, he manages to reach below the warehouse right on time and a land mine is set off to unleash chaos inside. In the meantime, Charlie and his gang make an entry at the scene and start firing at the Germans thereby taking the situation under control soon.Beckett realises he has been betrayed by Duke and tries to flee the scene in his car. But Tommy Shelby stops his way standing bravely in front of the vehicle speeding towards him, chin up and gun pointed at the treacherous agent. In the face-off, Tommy gets shot twice but "The Immortal Man" manages to shoot Beckett right in the head. Just as the car is about to run into Thomas, Duke flies in out of nowhere and throws him to safety. But as it appears, Tommy is not in a good state.Duke tries to make him come back to his senses but Tommy urges him to shoot him and put an end to his misery, his curse, his immortality. It turns out, Kaulo's prophecy comes true - either Duke will die at the hands of Tommy or the other way round. The Immortal Man dies in the arms of his son, passing on his empire to the rightful "rom baro", as Johnny Dogs and others acknowledge him as the new leader of the Peaky Blinders. Tommy Shelby is finally laid to rest inside a four-wheeled wagon with the pictures of all his deceased close ones and half-burned counterfeit notes (from the explosion) around him.Stay tuned to Soap Central for regular updates on daily soaps, TV shows and movies. Also Read - The Immortal Man: How the explosive ending of the Peaky Blinders sequel leaves the franchise on a cliffhanger?
