Former Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is mourning the death of HeeHaw, the Cedartown pet donkey who was shot and killed by a local police officer over the weekend while looking for a missing child on a farm.“Poor HeeHaw! I can’t imagine how devastated Hannah Israel and her family are over police shooting her baby donkey! Lots of farms in Polk County. People are very upset over this,” MTG, 52, wrote on X, reposting a TMZ clip of the news.In the wake of the mishap, HeeHaw’s owner Hannah Israel launched a GoFundMe titled, “Cover Lawyer Fees After HeeHaw's Tragic Death.” It has exceeded the original goal of $30,000 and has so far received $114,184 from 1,666 donations.According to the description, the fundraiser will cover justice costs, farm animal care, and future foundation expenses. It further mentions:“My bottle baby donkey ‘HeeHaw’ was killed in his own pasture on Saturday night by trespassing cops. He was a loved member of our family and did many petting zoos and made many people smile. We will be using any donations left for the farm, care of the animals, a fund for making a HeeHaw foundation and none of it for our personal needs. This is not a payday for us. Thank y'all so much for your support.”Exploring the circumstances surrounding HeeHaw’s deathHeeHaw was a fixture at Elsberry Farm in Cedartown, Georgia, run by Hannah Israel and her family. It also houses other animals like cows, roosters, and pigs.Amid the baby donkey’s fatal shooting, Hannah told 11alive.com:“He was my kid. I bottle-raised him from one hour old, and I was up at all hours of the night. He would normally be standing right over there talking while I'm talking because he thought he could talk like a person could talk.”The owner continued:“Every time he saw somebody, he would run up and bray. And then do a really goofy sound, and because he loved people, and he thought he was a person. He slept in my bed for the first three months of his life… I don't see any reason that he is not here right now. Just traumatized and shocked. I honestly can't even believe he's not here. He was such a part of our lives, just daily, every single day. Yeah, there's no words.”Meanwhile, Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsom confirmed with a "heavy heart" that one of his officers killed the animal while looking for a missing kid, who was later found safe at a church near the pasture.“That search took them to the incident location where this very unfortunate and heartbreaking event occurred... I will confirm body cam video exists. I have viewed it, but I won't comment as to what it portrays to respect the investigation that that state agency is going to do so,” Newsom stated.He acknowledged that farm animals are “members” of the human family, and like everyone else, he was also “heartbroken.” Jamie added:“I cannot imagine the grief and frustration that the tragic loss of HeeHaw has caused… I ask everyone to join us in prayer for everyone that has been impacted by this tragic event, but give time for the investigation to be completed.”The matter is currently under independent probe by the Georgia Department of Agriculture's Law Enforcement Division. The Israel family told reporters that officers told them they tried to use a taser to control the animal before he was shot.According to WUSA9, the officer who shot the beloved donkey has been put on administrative leave. Meanwhile, the Cedartown Police Department released the video of the incident that is now circulating online.As per Hannah’s latest update on the GoFundMe page, they have hired a lawyer but wouldn’t need to use the fundraiser money. So, she has asked donors to “feel free to dispute” and get their money back.“We are blown away by the support of our community!! Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, called, texted, made shirts the list goes on! Heehaws life mattered and y’all have proved that!” she wrote.Hannah Israel concluded by saying any donations left would go to caring for her farm, the animals, and to establish HeeHaw Foundation. She reiterated that the money wouldn’t be used for their personal needs, as her late donkey’s life has “no monetary value.”
