Canadian actor, producer, and LGBTQ+ activist Elliot Page plays Greek warrior Sinon in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic fantasy action film The Odyssey, adapted from Homer’s ancient Greek epic of the same name.

On July 6, The Odyssey Movie X account, aka @odysseymovie, shared a 6-second close-up clip of Page, 39, wearing a tan suit and posing at the film’s world premiere in the English capital.

“Elliot Page at The Odyssey World Premiere in London. Experience it only in cinemas July 17,” the caption read.

The post amassed over 16.1 million views in less than 24 hours but drew disparaging comments targeting Elliot’s appearance. As a result, the account disabled the comments.

In the wake of it, diverse reactions are circulating on the platform. For instance, user @DreamLeaf5 wrote:

“They had to disable comments because reactionary freaks can’t be normal about Elliot Page.”

For those unaware, Elliot Page came out as a trans man in 2020. Before that, he went by Ellen Page, aka his birth name.

Many joined the conversation.

“The Odyssey movie account has turned off comments on all of their posts… They know a woman (Ellen Page) playing a dude, race-swapping Helen of Troy (Lupita Nyong'o), & using the feminist retelling of the epic are terrible, divisive decisions, but they refuse to allow discourse about it,” a netizen wrote.
“The fact that they had to turn off the comments because people are being so transph*bic towards Elliot makes me so miserable, bro, we really can't do anything without the general population having a problem with it,” another netizen commented.
“The comments on Elliot Page's appearance at the premiere of The Odyssey were completely disabled. But it doesn't work when you quote the post,” an individual opined.

Others continued to weigh in.

“I guess even the GOAT Christopher Nolan isn’t immune to the studio machine. Having Elliot Page as Sinon feels like the ultimate Oscar bait casting move. It’s kinda wild watching auteur directors sacrifice their distinct vision just to check a few industry boxes,” another individual commented.
“Mind you, Elliot did everything ‘right’ that the transphobes keep saying they trans folks to do. Doesn’t preach to kids and waited until his 30s to begin transitioning,” a fan supported.

Elliot Page hasn’t addressed the negative comments as of writing.

All we know about Elliot Page’s transition and her role on ‘The Odyssey’

Elliot Page was born Ellen Page in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in February 1987, to teacher Martha Philpotts and graphic designer Dennis Page.

Page came out as a lesbian during a Human Rights campaign’s “Time to thrive” conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, in February 2014. Three years later, he claimed he was outed by filmmaker Brett Ratner on the sets of X-Men: The Last Stand when he was only 18. Co-star Anna Paquin confirmed the same, following which Page thanked her and others for speaking out against such a form of abuse.

Elliot transitioned in December 2020 and announced it via social media, saying the pronouns would be he/they. The actor explained that the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-trans rhetoric, and discussion around gender identity prompted her to come out as a trans man.

His ex-wife, Emma Portner, declared she was “so proud” of Elliot Page. Other celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Miley Cyrus, Justin Trudeau, and James Gunn also offered their support. Netflix, too, changed his name throughout their credits and metadata.

Over the years, he has been a pro-choice feminist and has advocated for abortion rights and the MeToo Movement. During the March/April 2021 issue of TIME as a first openly trans man, Elliot Page revealed he’d undergone “life-saving” top surgery. He also revealed that at nine, he “felt like a boy” and “wanted to be a boy.”

Today, Page identifies as queer/ non-binary and has been romantically involved with Overcompensating actress Julia Shiplett since June 2025.

Since Elliot Page was cast in The Odyssey, rumors hinted he would play Achilles, the hero from Homer’s The Iliad. Newsmax anchor Rob Finnerty blasted the possibility of Page playing the “greatest warrior in history,” with other conservative commentators joining him, including X owner Elon Musk.

Now, it has been revealed that Page is playing a minor role as Sinon, a Greek soldier who doesn’t feature majorly on The Odyssey.

On July 6, Elliot attended the world premiere of the magnum opus with his girlfriend at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London. While the actor walked the red carpet solo, he later posed for pictures with Shiplett, who posted their date-night pictures on Instagram:

“Saw this charming little indie called The Odyssey (maybe based off a book?? not sure) really loved it, you guys should try to find it if you can.”

Julia also thanked her stylist, makeup artist, designer, and jeweller.

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon in the titular role of Odysseus. Tom Holland plays his son Telemachus and Anne Hathaway is his wife Penelope. Other actors include Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. It hits the theaters worldwide on July 17.
