Sylvester Stallone gets candid about Hollywood physiques

While speaking during the interview, Sylvester Stallone reminisces about the extent to which he went to achieve his desired physique for Rocky III. He noted that he understood that Rocky III would lose “the element of surprise” unless he did something distinct. He wanted his character to “develop serious narcissism” and remove the “scars” that he had so that his character could become a “totally different person”.

For this, Sylvester Stallone went from “50% body fat to 2.6%”. To achieve this physique, he ate only “tuna dish” and drank “30 cups of coffee a day” along with “steroids”. Hearing Stallone’s extreme diet shocked the audience during the interview, in which Stallone pulled back the curtain on Hollywood physiques, revealing that “to play a sort of superhero or a person that is above and beyond a normal guy” is “not natural”.

According to Stallone, “it’s almost like putting on part of a costume”. During the interview, Stallone also spoke about the health scare he had during that period. He noted that his wife, Jennifer Flavin Stallone, was the one who pushed him to get tested even though he did not think that he needed it. The checkup led to the revelation of the health complication that he had.

Appreciating his wife’s “extra sense”, Stallone added that he was “lucky” that his wife pointed out his deteriorating health, which Stallone thought was just the outcome of “getting old”. In a previous interview with The New York Times, Stallone spoke about how he “became bulimic” during the extreme physical transformation for Rocky and Rambo. In the interview, he noted that trying to play “a warrior” and going through the physical transformation to completely embody the role became “an obsession” for him.

It became “really bad” and went to a point where he “became bulimic”. He was not able to “hold anything down” and did not even want to “keep it down” due to his “obsessive body-worship”. He further indicates that “nobody does it without additives and drugs”, further revealing the details regarding Hollywood physiques. Besides the Rocky movies, Sylvester Stallone has also done several other projects that have depicted his versatility.

In recent years, his performance in Tulsa King, where he takes on the role of Dwight Manfredi, has become a fan favorite. Some of Stallone's other notable projects that can also be added to your watchlist are The Expendables 4, Backtrace, Bullet to the Head, etc.
