Sebastian Stan never confirmed The Batman: Part 2 role, viral Harvey Dent quote was reportedly mistranslated

Sebastian Stan has joined the upcoming American superhero film, The Batman: Part 2, starring Robert Pattinson. Director Matt Reeves announced the new additions on X, revealing that Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tree Henry will also be a part of the film. However, their official roles remain under wraps as of now.

In an interview with a French outlet, Le Journal du Dimanche, Stan apparently revealed that he will play Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part 2.

However, as per the latest report (via The Wrap), the actor has been misquoted. The actor reportedly never confirmed that he will play the DC villain Harvey Dent. According to two insiders, the French outlet has also updated their article online.

Sebastian Stan has been cast for the upcoming superhero film, The Batman: Part 2, raising speculation for his role. On Monday, August 17, the internet was set abuzz over an interview published by a French outlet, Le Journal du Dimanche. According to Variety, while talking about Avengers: Doomsday, Stan shared his experience of how producers don't want to disclose the upcoming story entirely. In short, he revealed that the plot continues to evolve(via Forbes).

"I've been following this rule for fifteen years, I'm used to it. I also can't say anything about The Batman: Part II , by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent. The beauty of this profession also lies in participating in projects of this scale, which I love as a viewer."

Turns out, as per two insiders, Stan has been misquoted, and according to various sources, he had never confirmed his role. The French outlet has also made the corrections on their page. According to The Wrap, the updated statement read,

"I also can’t say anything about “Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II .”

The actor further added that he is keen to watch Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Speaking about his upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, he said that they did not have a script and the sequences were shot haphazardly, as the plot kept evolving.

Filming for The Batman: Part 2 began in June 2026. Reeves took to X on June 13, 2026, to share a glimpse of the first shot. The film is slated to be released in October 2027.

On May 14, 2026, Reeves took to X to share a GIF featuring Stan and captioned it as,

"In a Gotham state of mind...welcome."
